    Default HK 45 in CA?

    Hey everyone-

I've done a search and there doesn't seem to be a clear answer.
Can I buy an HK 45 from someone on this board who's in NJ?

    Thanks!

Since the HK45 is not on the California DOJ safe gun list, you cannot transfer the gun into the state of California unless you are a LEO. Since the gun does not have a magazine disconnect and according to G3Kurz, it would be impossible to modify the HK45 to have a mag disconnect, the gun will never be on the California safe gun list.

However, if somebody else moves to California from another state, where possession of the gun is legal, and establishes residence in the state of California, you may purchase the gun through the PPT (private party transfer) process. But in order to do so, you must meet face-to-face at a FFL and complete the DOJ paperwork, then you still have to wait ten days.

It's not impossible. I have two, waited ten days for both.

    I found both here.

Yes, in addition to what BitterOldMan stated, you can do an intra-family transfer. Read below...

Your father/mother or daughter/son (read up on intrafamily if you want more info on that) can send you 5 weapons a year. From out of state,

    In a nutshell:

A Brief "How To Do It" Interstate, Intrafamily
For an interstate intrafamily handgun transfer, an FFL is required because of Federal law. (Don't count on either the California Department of Justice or many FFLs to remember Federal law.) Filing just a form with the State does not meet the requirements of Federal law.

The out of state family member may bring the handgun to a CA FFL, or ship it to the FFL if the FFL is willing to accept shipment from a non-FFL.

Off-roster handguns may not be sold, but intrafamily gifts are transferable.

Provide a letter of gift - something like
    <Date>
I, Joe Blow, want my son, John Blow, to have
this nice Colt Python revolver, S/N 123456.

    Signed, Joe Blow
John comes to the CA FFL and does paperwork
If the handgun is off-roster, the FFL completes the Roster-exemption part of DROS screen and writes in "12078PC intrafamily transfer".
The FFL keeps (a copy of) the gift letter in his files just in case of audit questions.
Since this transfer will run through DROS, no other form is needed.
Note that this is still an interstate transfer, and the FFL may charge any fee for this service he may think appropriate.

    Thanks Agro.

To obtain an off-roster pistol in California,

    Law Enforcement Officer
    Intra-family out of state transfer
    Inheritance
Private Party Transfer (PPT) face to face at FFL
Single Shot Exemption - Manufacturer 07 FFL can modify pistol to be single shot, but barrel must be modified to 7.5 inches and other rules. However, the gun can be modified back to original specifications. See http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=383692

Can an individual LEO or military person in Ca legally transfer the HK45?

I'm sorry about my earlier post. Does a Navy Master at Arms count as a LEO?

The SSE process is pretty easy once you get used to the concept. There's a great explanation and a list of SSE-friendly FFLs in this thread:

    Single Shot Exemption Explanation/Database Thread - Calguns.net

It's worth noting that the SSE process requires a 6" barrel, not the 7.5" barrel discussed earlier in this thread.

Ultimately any pistol which does not possess AW characteristics and is not banned by name in CA is legal to bring in via the SSE process. The "safe handgun roster" is essentially just a list of what models dealers in CA may stock.

There are many FFLs who do not charge additional money for the SSE process. Some of them even carry stock of such pistols; EBR Works had stock of gen 4 Glocks and several P30s and HK45s the last time I checked with them. They were also able to refer me to other FFLs who had SSE kits for pistols they did not have parts for.

If you don't have a FFL that's into the SSE process near you, just get in touch with Table Rock Arms and they'll sell you an HK45 already modified with a 6" barrel and zero round sled [read: magazine block] already installed. After you've DROS'd the gun in CA simply remove those parts and mail them back to Table Rock Arms and reinstall the original barrel. It is a completely legal process.
