    G36 to protect Prince Harry

News of the World (so it must be true) reports:

"PRINCE Harry’s bodyguards have been trained to use the supergun made famous by Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible 3.

The SAS-trained officers will protect the soldier prince with the fearsome Heckler & Koch G36 pump-action assault rifles if he is sent to another war zone.

It is the clearest signal yet that Harry, who fought the Taliban in Afghanistan, may return to the frontline.

His bodyguards recently took the powerful rifles to Afghanistan on a secret fact-finding mission. They were taught how to “take out” suicide bombers and snipers at long range.

The team of crackshots, from Scotland Yard’s S014 unit, usually carry Glock 17 pistols. Harry, 24, who last week was on a charity motorbike trek in Africa with his brother William, wants to take part in a second tour of duty."

The SA-80 is an expensive piece of crap! Even with the upgrades done by H&K to turn it into the L-85A2! I find it amusing that the person who wrote the article said the G-36s were pump-action!!

Prince Harry would be protected by Met Police protection officers (and the hundreads of soldiers around him). The standard issue for them when on HR/LI duties is a fully auto capable G36 as seen below

Protection officer with the Prime Ministers

Semi auto's are used by ARV's in the UK due to certain restrictions in place

An undated file picture shows Spanish soldiers of NATO's International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) at their military base in Baghdis province Afghanistan. Two NATO-led Spanish soldiers were killed and four were wounded when a suicide bomber attacked their convoy in Afghanistan's western Herat province, Afghan and Spanish officials said on 09 November 2008. There are some 780 Spanish soldiers in the Nato-led International Security Assistance Force from 40 nations deployed in Afghanistan

    Thanks to Lancero.

Nice pix. IIRC, the series of pics starting 3rd from top of your post show soldiers of telemark btl. They were first submitted by user Marsuitor of MP.net, who is shown in some of them.
