Collectability is a non-issue for me. I am looking for a shooter first. Period.

Can I save a few bucks and get a PTR 91 GI? Do these still destroy the brass and if so will a recoil buffer help or anything? My understanding is also that I will have to upgrade the cocking handle on the PTR and replace it with a HK one, is this true? Around here, HK91s run for about 2.5-3k.

I've owned FALs, M1as, and AR10s... but I am curious to check out another MBR platform... so here we go. (fwiw I've sold my FALs, still have a M1a)

Recently purchased HK91 IB date coded. Hasn't been fired by me yet. Did the whole teardown today and found this partial machine screw inside the trigger pack. The first indication of anything odd was the presence of tiny metallic balls in the bottom of the hand grip frame when I removed the grip. I thought to myself, What in the F**k is this sh*t? So I proceeded w/ the cleaning and then found this in the trigger pack. Where in the hell did this come from and how in the hell did it get in there? I have never seen anything like this in any of the trigger packs that I've ever worked on. Talk about Foreign Object Damage!
I didn't bring it as it was mainly a rimfire day. She laughingly said I might have to keep the Hk's and let you shoot the AR's..lol. Looks like Hk might have another fan soon enough...

I've been unable to remove a HK flash hider from a HK93. I've tried Aero Kroil (one of the best penetrating oils I've ever used) and let it sit, days, come back reapply, let it sit, apply light heat, more Kroil, let it sit; nada. I've heard that there is a special tool but I don't have one of those so tried using a large screw driver levered between the slots on the front edge, all I've done is bend things a bit. Haven't tried vice grips yet, didn't want to damage the flash hider. Any suggestions? Anyone know if there is a specific HK tool for this?

OK gang - I have a SL-8 that was converted to a G36 by Tommy Bostic. It was tumbling the bullets and they were key holing in the target. Tommy took the rifle back. Put in a new barrel (chopped to 16" with a 4 prong flash hider). Got it back and it was working fine for about 3-400 rounds. I recently cleaned with (bore brush/Hoppies #9) etc. and it is now key holing every few rounds. WHY??? What could be causing the bullet to tumble out of the barrel that badly? Any not every round, but ever few rounds? Using American Eagle brass ammo. It also did it on PMC bronze and Wolf steel cased.

Thanks for your theories and thoughts on this one.
