Hadn't seen this particular set-up before but I finally took delivery of the long awaited SS 1-6 scope and mounted it in a Bobro mount on the Bostic converted G-36. Have to say this is a terrific optic for this platform. The gun is already a bit big / heavier so the fact that the scope goes 25 oz isn't that big a deal. The entire thing feels very good, set up very nice in terms of cheek weld and has amazing glass. Here it is - sorry about the marginal picture...

At any rate, if anyone was thinking about it, thought I'd post the pictures and initial impressions.

I shot both today. the P9S is such a gem that it got most of the hard-to-find 9mm ammo. The old gun functioned flawlessly. The best group I could manage was 4 inches at about 25 yards prone on my old army blanket. These old eyes have a hard time focusing on that skinny white front sight. If I had a range with a proper bench and some sand bags I should be able to do that at 50 yards, at least I would hope so. I can't shoot the USPc nearly as well because the SA trigger just won't allow it. I need more practice.

For my hard-hittin' cqb guys, UKD = Unknown Distance

Today, I took 2 steel gongs out to unknown distances. One measured 8" in diameter and the other is 15". After all ammunition was exhausted, I ranged the targets to find that the 8" gong was at 168m (183y), and the 15" was at 338m (369y)

Rifle: 14.5" (pinned barrel) 416 upper on MR556 lower with Geissele trigger
Optic: Schmidt & Bender 1.1-4x24mm Short Dot LE #7 reticle calibrated for 75gr 5.56mm
Wind: approximately 9mph @ 1/2 value
Ammo: 77gr Black Hills factory 2nd's

(Editing to add 2nd day)

[Well, my big mitts and my laptop strike again. My previous write-up didn't get copied correctly it's gone, and day 2 didn't turn out as planned.]

The only thing worth mentioning from before was that with the Geissele, shooting off a pack, 3-round strings of fire on steel at 369y with splits at or just under 1 second were not difficult.

So had a great time with a new shooting pal Albert as his guest at Black Rock club in NY.
The PSG8 is everything I read it would be, Tom Bostic has the best stocks. His G3 sniper buttstock addition makes it so easy to adjust for LOP and cheek weld. No way I could enjoy the thumbhole stock the same way. To be NY compliant by next year I intend on disabling auto-loading by plugging the gas block because I won't give up Tom's stock... sad, but let's not focus on that.

The software image says about 2 MOA for 9 rounds using Hornady 75gr match ammo at 100 yards. I still need to dial in the zero better, will work on that. The Nightforce is the NXS 5.5 x 22 x 56. Honestly, I am just starting this sport and I have nothing to ref to. Shot my first ARs thanks to Al the same day, in 5.56 and .308. Don't know all the rifle details, but he exceeded my accuracy with the PSG8. But I can tell you I have a lot to learn!

I problem I did have is a bunch of fail to feed properly. This happens with Lake City M855, IMI M855, Hornady 75gr match, Federal Gold 69gr match, EVERYTHING. AND on both SL8s I have, sharing the same few mags. Problem is I did not mark the mags (yet!) so I can't trace the problem mags. bolt would get 3/4 of the way to lockup and it would mash the case and leave the 2 bolt head marks as shown in pic. like the round is at the wrong angle to feed into the chamber properly, and the bolt head missed the bottom of the case but caught it mid-way and tried to feed it that way. The bolt head mashes it midway up the case and then stops. I never have the BHO issue, even w/ pmags (all stock SL8 10 round mags). But I have the extended bolt release and it got me thinking since this issue usually happened on the last round. maybe the mag spring cannot feed that last round and drive the BHO up (fighting the trigger spring tension) at the same time? I did notice also when I put the trigger spring on the notch of the trigger (on BHO side) then I get the fail to hold open. If I leave the spring resting on the bottom of the lower instead (as it comes from factory) then the BHO works all the time. any experience with this?

anyway, in spite of that fail to feed issue, which I will solve, the rifle is perfect for me, and I love the looks and the way it handles. will post more at 200 yards when I get it done.
also, does that software capture showing .55 MOA grouping make sense/is it accurate? Hopefully I am not off on that...

A few weeks ago I picked up a nice VP70Z & tried it out today. What a nice gun. Yeah, the 1st few rounds wouldn't fire until tomorrow, the trigger pull was so long, but after 10 rounds I was able to pull it to where it took just a bit more to fire the round. Real smooth. I let a few friends who worked there fire it, & they were all impressed. When you rack the slide, it feels like it's on ball bearings. I didn't buy it as a target gun, but it did quite well. Of course I immediately cleaned it when I got home, & it's put away. Real nice gun. The first plastic fantastic. It's nice to bring a gun to the range that everyone wants to shoot. GARY

Went to the range today and took my HK45 and USPc 45 with me. Was shooting pretty good groups at various distances when the R.O. came up behind me and asked about the keyholing. I briefly remembered thinking the same thing at a different range but forgot about it. Today I thought enough to keep the targets and post some pics. I am heading back there tomorrow to shoot some hard cardboard targets and hope that it's just the way the paper was tearing against the cardboard backer today and at the other range. I did try to find my bullet holes in the cardboard backer today but it was just one big hole.
Ammo was Federal American Eagle 230 gr FMJ and Speer Lawman 230 gr TMJ

Anyways, is my ammo keyholing or are these paper targets just tearing funky?

438 rounds, mixed ammo types. Pistol has been converted to LEM.

2 malfunctions, one ammo-induced, one shooter-induced. First one was a failure to feed with a Federal 185 grain semi-wadcutter (light target ammunition). Yeah, I know, but I had to try it. This was the second round out of a full 8 round magazine; the rest fed and functioned, but the slide had a "click-clack" feel to it while cycling. My kraut HK45C eats that stuff like candy. Then again, that one has well over 8K rounds through it, so maybe when this one is shot some more...

The second malf was a failure to lock back on an empty magazine. I was well into the +P rounds by that time and was getting beat up pretty good, plus I was tired from all that shooting; so I'm chalking that one up to me.

IOW, shooter glitches aside, it was just another display of HK-ness. Marvelous accuracy, boring reliability.

One thing for all you guys who are anal about cleaning your gat... if you've never had a light-colored frame pistol before, boy... are YOU in for a surprise. The yellow (no disrespect to those who insist otherwise, but this thing is YELLOW!) frame shows you every speck of fouling in every nook and cranny. Better stock up on Q-tips and pipe cleaners, is all I can say.

Not much else to cover... I mean, its an HK, so we know what its gonna do, right?

She's getting a GI cleaning (the three-day thing), after which she'll go into service as my EDC. Yeah, the color is hideous... but I bought it use, not to look at. Kinda wish I'd bought two, now; that was a killer deal.

Anyone know if those supplied tritium sights are available for sale? I'd like to put a set on my back-up piece, a "regular" black US-made HK45C.

.

Went to the range with my step-dad today. Just got the MR762 a few weeks ago and have not picked out any glass for it yet.

I was so excited that I went ahead and put 20 rounds of Hornady Match ammo through it with no sights haha. Glorious is the only way to describe how it feels to shoot the MR762. So smooooth and very minimal recoil....a nice solid push instead of the punch I am used to with the 7mm Rem Mag I use for whitetails.

I can not wait to throw some glass on there and see what kind of groups it is capable of.

Pics or it didn't happen....

I got a chance to shoot the 45c with match hammer spring and new LEM kit. Very nice, I can shoot it almost like a 1911 now. Still can't believe I managed to install the kit first try. Special thanks to TooSixy and Carrera for the tutorials.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my excitement with fellow HK enthusiasts. I'll have to update this thread when I get some optics and put some decent groups together.:25:

My Hk45 doesnt have much work done to it, it has a match trigger with trigger overtravel screw installed, and i just put in a new threaded barrell. Sights are still luminova (not for long).

Most of my groupings, save the flyers, were 2 inches or less.

So first the good news.

The trigger stop is awesome. I missed it from the USPT .45. makes the trigger experience way more positive. A full match trigger feels very smooth. cleaner break.

Threaded barrel is nice and can't wait to get a Suppressor for it.

This said i haven't been shooting in a bout 2 moths. Ammo is scarce and so is my time :( So just a tad rusty. All shots were done at 7 yrds

As i can see from the pics my shooting on this trigger and platform has increased my consistancy by at least 25%. grouping is tighter. I do not have an issue so far of shooting to the left and low as usual.

My GF also shot it, and was amazed at how different it felt. I hate to admit it some of her groupings were better than mine, which on some levels pisses me right off since if you asked her what a recoil guide rod is she would probably bring you one of my Recoil magazines (love that publication btw)

now the bad

Pistol has no down sides other than its not finished.

however now im shooting high and slightly right. Which i have to admit, i dont think ive ever done before......ever. sure ive had flyers go in all sorts of directions but never consistantly. now on the up side my shots are center and not severly left.

Now here is the kicker. My GF and i do not shoot the same. but we both found that instead of covering the target we would dot the i, and our hits would go right into the tenspot. And even she most of the time was shooting high and to the right. something she normally doesnt do either. They are factory sights.

So does anyone know if the stop screw or the threaded barrel can change the POI?

Also i do realise that the gun isnt the same so i need to get used to it.

All in all im veeery happy with its performance. i can not wait to get it finished :)

so i got this bad boy 2 weeks ago. Had 1 box of 50 rounds, that i split up between me, my brother, my father, and my brothers friend. (they all HAD to try my gun.) The end result was i only got to put like 20 rounds through it myself. (We mostly shot AR)

I will say that this is my first time ever shooting a .45, and i don't have a whole lot of experience yet with handguns in general (im fixing that)

So here's the proof.

To say that my shooting skills are rusty is to insult oxidation. As if that isn't bad enough, old age seems to have robbed me of a lot of upper-body strength. Recoil feels difficult to manage, especially shooting the SIG P220 with hardball. I am disappointed with the trigger on the USP. I didn't expect much and it was worse than I expected. The gun performed flawlessly, however, but an expensive, well-built pistol should have a better trigger out of the box methinks.

On the plus side my handloads for the .45 were a joy to shoot. I haven't reloaded for probably 20 years but I dusted off the old RCBS equipment and made some 185 grain SWC with 6 grains of AA#2 and they proved to be very sweet in the P220. Whoever used the clearcut in the hills before me left behind a bunch of .45 and 9mm casings for me to police up. Thank you Litterbug, I can use the brass.
