    Default "Slimline" Forend on a PTR91 F??

Has anyone put a "Slimline" forend on a PTR F? It doesn't seem to wanna go on the heavier barrel.

    What's the trick?

    THANKS!!

I put a POF-contract wide forearm on my PTR and I thought I was gonna have to file the little plastic tabs at the back of the handguard to get it on, but I was able to get mine on by applying a heavy coat of Rem-oil to the barrel and the tabs and with a little pressure it just snapped right over the barrel, and fit on very nicely.
Yeah man, I tell ya what, man, them dang ol’ HKs, man, talkin' bout SUH-WEET, man, dang ol' point and click, baby, just, just, dang ol' awesome, man.

If it still has it in there, the heat shield has gotta go. The PTR's barrell is a bit wider than your standard HK one. You may even have to remove a little material from inside the handguard. Mine came w/ an FMP slimline and it has no heat shield and also looks like someone did a little extra machining towards the back where it fits over the chamber area of the barrell and into the trunion. Think I left my camera @ the other house or I'd take a pic for you.

I'm curious why you would want to put a plastic slimline on without a heat shield? Those barrels heatup rather quickly on the .308s!
If you're going to go what route maybe decide to go with a wooden one?

I'm thinking just for looks. Or maybe to save weight. I no longer use my slimline, upgraded to PTR's aluminum handguard/RAS.

One of the members on here used to sell some nice wood sets. he would clean them up and refinish them...they were really top notch. I think if I were to get a 91 I might consider that route, but I personally like the tropical wide as well.

Well, the PTR has a MUCH heavier barrel and because the greater mount of metal should dissipate heat a little better, so I think you could probably get by with out the HS unless you are going FA, or doing several mag dumps, but with the cost of .308 these days...

Also, he might want to put on a HK Heavy bipod, which only work with the slim forearm.

i replaced mine with a wide HK and found that placing the rear part of the fore end near the muzzle end first, apply gentle pressure, then sliding it rear ward works well without removing anything. and like above, it fits perfect. i dont know why the slim version would fit any different.
