this is the very first email i recieved from the seller whom saw i was interested in building a 53 from my posts on HKpro.

, I have a HK 53 barrel and a Special weapons reciever that I was going to do a 53 build on. Buying a complete gun is a lot of money to plunk down I like buying them part by part when I have the money. Let me know if interested. Thanks, XXX

I guess the first five words made me think i was buying an HK 53 barrel

    Cool the plot thickens

Ok, i contacted the seller via email & explained to him my situation he assures me he sold me a HK 53 barrel, here is his response

Hi I remember the sale back 6-8 months ago. The barrel was a 53 barrel I was planning on doing a build into a 53. I deal alot with HK parts and would not have bought junk to make myself a 53. So it is possible your smith may have mixed up barrels. Thanks and good luck with your build.

The barrel should be here tomorrow via ups, so i will try post picks then, in the mentime i have a couple picks i took of all my parts sitting together on the floor rite before i sent it to the smith i will try to ad them to this post maybe someone can see something obvious. I thimk REXT said it best, I may have to chaulk this one up to an experience learned...

what a pain in the ass

from the pic i can see now why the smith says the handguard wont fit

I don't know, it looks close. Here's a couple of pics I took of my 53 RCM barrel and trunnion and handguard. In the second pic the handgaurd is all the way back and hooked into the trunion

Also, depending on how far it's off, you might be able to fit it really easily. I had two demilled HK53 kits and even before I cut the cocking tubes from the trunnion and receiver stub, the hanguard pushpins were hard to push in and couldn't be removed by hand. I had to push them 1/2 way out with a screwdriver.

It was a little easier once I welded the tube to the 93 receiver, but was still tight. All it took was trimming about .030 off of the tab inside the handguard where it hangs on the trunnion. You might have .060"-.090" to play with. Now the pins go in and out like buttah.

AD, im concerned that its out to far, due to the fact my smith would rather use a cutoff from a 33kit than fix the 53 barrel. im also concerned about the 33 kit barrel being all shot out, i wamted my 53 to be somewhat accurate. Wont it be quite a process to change out barrels latter on?

quite a process indeed...i would honestly sort your barrel issue first...i dont know the condition of either but honestly if there are concerns about the barrel being shot out then i would really suggest reparing or sourcing another 33 or 53 barrel...that being said...these barrels can take some serious rounds so maybe there is no reason for concern

Yes, it might be too far out. There's no way to know without having the parts. And yes, you don't want to install a barrel with the chance that you'll just be replacing it a short time later. Swapping barrels in these is a lot of work.

But it sounds like it may be done soon, so we of course all want to see it when you get it back.
