Don't know I should be excited or not but so far I am happy. I picked up a MKE AT 94P imported by ATI today. Paid $1200 and it seems to function well, shot 100rd of WWB so far with not even a hiccup. The thing surely is ugly I got to say, the welds are OK but not perfect and the paint is OK but again not perfect but if it's a project gun so what...you don't buy a Colt Gold Cup to strip it down to nothing and replace each part do you?

What do you all think about this model, any other owners out here that can give me any suggestions? I do expect to convert this to an SBR in the near future, not sure if I should just have my 07/SOT cut and thread the existing barrel or if I should replace it with a HK replacement. Does anyone know how interchangeable stock parts are with this clone?

I know you feel all special and assume everybody was just waiting for your arrival so that they could type tons of info on the subject all over again, but you might be better off just reading titles of threads for a few pages. You'll find that a lot of the stuff has already been documented.

Just one example:

Oh, and welcome to the forum.

You got a good gun. I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot. Have fun.

Congrats on the new gun and welcome to HKPRO!

... and better do what Retro says or else he'll make you sit in a corner and prohibit you from posting anything new till you do!

(j/k)... sorry Retro, couldn't resist ;)~

Jason here you go: Diamond in the rough but for the price as long as it continues to be reliable I'll be happy. I have shot FA and it's fun but I don't think $17K worth of fun :) I'll stick to supressors and SBR's, may end up with a ACC556 or UZI someday to scratch the itch sometime but that's about it.

As far as the thread..yes I had already read that several days ago and I did not get much out of it other than the OP was happy with the way it works and a lot of others starting a bitchfest about 922r and various other things. One thing I have learned over the years is that everyone think's they are a lawyer on the internet. Ask 5 people get 5 answers and with the internet you will get a heck of a lot more than that. Even the ATF does not know how to answer questions on a lot of their rules so bottom line is the correct answer depends on the day of the week and who you ask. I did appreciate the thread though, that one extra review on the piece was the deciding factor that it was worth the risk to try one out.

Actually, since you've already stated you AREN'T going to go with a sear in this gun, you'll be VERY pleased with your purchase. Congrats. The bitchfests start when somebody decides they want to SBR it, then suppress it and finally someday sear it. Then we gotta explain how (so far) that can't legally be done and if SBRing the gun how as now it going to be a rifle, it now HAS to meet the specs FOR a rifle (922r). The NFA paperwork (SBR) means nothing anymore, not that it ever did.

You bought a pistol. Enjoy it AS a pistol and you'll have a great time... with a lot less expenditure than most of us... but then, We're FANBOYS, baby!!!

Oh.. and welcome to the club. Behave yourself and mebbe Retro will show you the secret handshake.

I've seen it... you don't wanna know... looks kinda like the double-dutch ruder. YIKES!

One of my buddies here in Chucktown bought the SP89 version. While it's not as nice as a German built gun it functions fine and we've beat the crap out of it at the range. Not a single failure yet.
For a semi blaster you should have a solid performer, congrats & enjoy.

If the finish is a bit too shiny, you can bake the gun. I remember somebody posting a thread on how to do it. Gets more of a Matte Black color to it. I think it looks really nice. You can throw a normal MP5 handguard on it, or even a railed one if you like, you just CANNOT put a vertical foregrip on it.

Well apparently not ANY handguard. I ordered a UTG the other day from CDN when I ordered up a few Glock and 94 Clone mags. I don't know about the internals or function but maybe I'll get a chance to test them tmorow after work. It's a clone gun, can't bring myself to buy real mags @ $65 for a clone if the clones work just as well.

So I tried popping on the UTG railed forend and it will not work no matter what. It is just too tight, looks like the barrel is a bit thicker at the trunion or tapers off slower than what the UTG accounts for and just quite does not fit. So there is an example of where "not compatable with all accessories" comes into play. Tried using it on the GSG-5 but that would take some modifications of the GSG hardware to work so it looks like I'll be grinding away on the UTG to MAKE it fit the 94p, measure twice grind once I know. So we know that the SureFire forend works, the cheap ATI GSG-5 forend works on it but has anyone tried a HK Wide forend ? I'd like to know if that works before spending $60 on that. Has anyone tried a claw mount on these ?

Bought it at a local gun shop. It was a real PIA finding one on-line (could not) but I tried really hard since I have had issues with the local funstore. I have not stepped into the place in over a year but after searching high and low on the internet for 2 days I broke down and did look and they actually had one and it was cheaper than what I had seen it advertised as so I sold my soul and bought it from them. I got lucky...

Yea the lack of forend really erks me, not only does it make it ugly but it also makes it very difficult to hold, not sure exactly WHY they chose to add no forarm and a full 16 barrel, would it not have been just as easy to install the standard 8.25 in barrel since it's already a pistol ?

The finish is not really to my liking and I also think as durable as a can of car spray paint. I have ovens and have done a lot of refinishing for myself and friends between KG and Lauer products so I'll probably refinish it myself after I break it in and abuse it a bit. The 2 things I really need to do to it is adding a forend, probably the HK wide and install the stock length barrel. Don't know if I should replace the barrel or just have my smith lop it off and rethread.

Don't get me wrong FA is fun..would love a to own a sear but I guess it's just my training over the years, make every shot count! I have had many opportunities to shoot FA both for fun and when I was LE. When I have got together with friends that have FA I just find myself either in SA or letting 3-4 rip at a time, guess I am just cheap with my ammo. Have I dumped a mag or two? yes...but can't say I have done more than can be counted on both hands in all my years. Maybe I'll get a MAC, UZI or ACC556 some day if I want to own a "bullet puller", it's a lot more fun than loading rounds in a kinetic hammer just to pull them apart LOL!

Nice SCRich,

Here is how you fix "ugly". Immediately place a forend on it and replace the trigger housing with one that is "clipped & pinned". I couldn't stand the way it looked with the tabs cut off. These must be a "hit and miss" on the finish and welds, as mine appears perfect and I am very happy with it. I also had the same question as you, reference the barrel. My HK guy advised me that if I planned on acutally putting a can/suppressor on it, then change out the barrel rather than cut and thread it. He indicated that he found the MKE barrels to be a bit softer. He recommended the "Urback" barrel, however I opted for the US made "RCM" barrel made to German Specs. I'm now waiting on my tax stamp to arrive. Several of the guys here at the Armory are now interested, however unable to locate any in stock for sale....Enjoy, sounds like you got the last one for now. Are you retired LE?

No not retired...smart :) No offense intended, I did 4 years at a SO in the NE and I got tired of the political BS so I got out. Even though it was the north it was the bubba system and one day you could be working warrant squad, next day on assignment with the prosecutors office narcotics for 6-12 months or another day working semi-max security in the prison (nastyer than Max). NOT smart since one day you can be with an inmate serving up meals then next week working narcotics and run into the same dirt bag that just got out and was back at it. I was into electronics since childhood and got a job with Motorola working with public safety then doing design and repair on radar/lidar units and some custom K-9 patrol car accessories. Now I work in the cellular field and am making 3x as much as I would be making on the job and I can afford my toys :)

I spoke to my attorney and a friend of his who specialize in NFA about 922r. Just as confusing as all the web posts, it's a "grey area" so I guess it will continue to be so. I like the look with the new barrel! Thanks for the updated photo. I purchased a quad rail forend for now but am eye'ing up some of the used surfires out there on the market. I saw my smith on Saturday when I went to pick up some barrels he had threaded for me and showed him the gun. The paint is really poor, if the barrel touches anything the pain't is flaking off, looks like an auto parts store can of paint was used with no prep or blasting. NOT a problem since I have used Duracoat and KG on many guns in the past and I can do it myself. To try to go 922r I think we will go the american barrel, he will replace it for $65. I don't have a press and I am sure that is what is required, he can do that and headspace properly for me before I refinish.

Tell your boy's to hold on...I spoke to ATI on Tuesday morning and he stated that they have a shipment ready to depart by boat from Turkey. It will take time to get here, pass though customs etc. but I think we got the "feeler order" and now that they have a feel for the want of this model they may be bringing in a lot more. I also paid much less locally from a store known to overprice things than I would have paid from the dealer on the "other web site" where you posted.

Add on a couple extra weeks for rescuing or ransoming the boat from the Somali pirates...

I still think renting a Cruise Ship, outfitting it with enough firepower for a battalion of Marines and then selling "Cruises to the Gulf of Aden" would go over great!!! Charge like $500 for time on the fiddy cals when the pirates hit it, $150 to $200 for any shoulder fired MG, etc.

Make a buck, and clean up the Gulf... capitalism, the American way... and fun to boot.

Then Obongo can do his apology thing to his fellow muslim/socialists all he wants afterwards. Like, totally win-win.

Well the boat must have left since I got mine not even a week ago! I wasted 2 days looking on the internet not thinking anyone locally would have it but the closest store to me did. Maybe not a huge order but if you were looking in Feb and I got mine in June some must have come in. Actually ATI on Tuesday stated they have 3 in stock now, find a distributor that deals with them and have them order them up. 2 dealers I called called their distributors and they were not interested in placing an order for them! Go figure!

My gunsmith/07/SOT will, I took it to him Saturday he looked it over and quoted me. I have several projects in his shop now, waiting for the stamp to come back on my can, and just wrote another check to the ATF for the Krink he is making me, maybe he gave me a special deal since he knows I am an addict :20000000: Where are you located in SC?

scrich,
Yes, HK wide forearm will work.
You are correct......the MKE barrels are heavier than the original & clones. If memory serves me correctly I think hk & clone barrels are in the .505 range & the MKE 94P is in the .705 range.....with a slight taper towards the muzzle end. The "step part" at the trunioun is also slightly bigger.
If you are interested, I have a vented barrel shroud with the verticle grip for sale for your MKE 94P model. If you are PM me.
When these things first hit the shores, I worked with Val @ E&L with the specs for those barrel shrouds for him.

I'll get back to you, I am not familiar with the EL shroud grip, are they all in one ? Since of course a vertical grip on a pistol would make it an AOW. I'll make this one work one way or another, have dremel and small mill...nothing can stop me! :) But a wide HK type forarm would also be nice. I actually would prefer one of those than a Tri-Rail. I am only interested in a single short piece of rail to mount eihter a flashlight or my M6X, and that is easy to attach to a stock forarm, don't think I have ever seen one stock like that.

Thanks Clicker! Oh and Whoot!! I called the ATF today and I was approved on the 8th. I got some really good Karma right now trying to figure out how to get to Elgin since I am on-call till' Monday 7am and can't take vacation next week. Call IA and yes, the stamp arrived yesterday in the mail. Boss calls me about 2 hours later and asks if I want to go represent the engineering group at a store in Columbia from 9-3 tmorw "Why SURE BOSS...I'll be there!" The silence will be golden tomorow evening when I get home :) Your town is fun the short time I spent there but it's a bit of a drive to test a piece of plastic, cheaper to buy one and throw it out if it don't fit LOL!

DJ I checked out their web site earlier today, interestring shrouds but not my cup of tea, not quite the look I am looking for.
