    Default Running the SD wet?

Has anyone tried running their SD cans wet? Water, piss, lube, etc? I've read it makes it even quieter but not sure if it's bad for the can long-term. Does it shift POI?

    thanks

My POI is always off a little when I use lube..... and it is certainly bad for her can long term.

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. I'm still an 8th grader in my heart.

Back to the topic: I've run an external suppressor wet before without any noticeable change in POI and it was definitely quieter for a few shots. I'm not sure you would want to do it with an SD though, given the barrel vent holes an all.

As I recall you have a CA SD right? The CA SD can is all stainless steel except the end cap, which is very thick carbon steel. That is why my CA can is over 2 lbs. I add water to my CA SD can and it makes a significant difference in the sound level to my ears. It is my understanding that adding water to an aluminum can can be bad for the can. I guess the water mixes with the powder residue and is acidic. But being SS I doubt your CA SD can would be bothered at all. So adding water to an aluminum SD can would not be a good idea to me.

I usually put three cap fulls of water from an Aquafina bottle in the chamber end of the can, put my thumb over the end of the can, and shake it. After a couple of mags I do it again. Your Mileage May Vary.

Never run "wet" w/ SD can.
I've seen a guy in PD who put water and grease to enhance his can... well, this moron couldn't take off his can after about a week.
DO NOT put anything in your SD can.
SD cans are designed to run dry and it's already extremely quite. Stop messing w/ German design and enjoy your SD.

This is a bad idea with the factory MP5SD, especially the standard aluminum can. Too much liquid inside could result in a burst can and there may be rust issues as well. The US Navy requested a stainless steeel can for their MP5SD-N's to avoid both issues and still these weapons need to be rinsed in clean water, dried and lubed to eliminate corrosion. I woud say that unless the can maker specifically states the can can be run wet and has tested it as such, there is a risk for the small payoff involved.

nyet. No ablative (aka wet stuff) in an integral system. Causes far too much grief for very little benefit. Muzzle mounts are a different story. And I recommend using ultrasonic jelly. Buy it at medical supply shops by the gallon for cheap. Put some in a ketchup squeeze bottle and take to the range and use as needed. All ablatives are typically messy. The jelly smells kinda funky when used this way... But it seems to perform best and tends to stay in the can a lot longer than water. Or piss.

ok, fair enough, but what about a good soaking with kroil or wd40? That can't be bad.. if anything it will clean the can, no?

SG... if you have a take apart can... have you tried Bore Butter? The stuff the smokepole shooters use? Damn stuff works great in take apart cans. Carbon wipes right off with a shop rag, IF you clean regularly after a shootin' session. No matter if aluminum, SS, Inconel, or fender washers. No harm to the metal, stays soft, keeps the carbon suspended, quiets the firearm quite well, doesn't "shoot out" quickly, cleans up good... and if you bought the Pine Scent, even smells good when shooting. Kinda.... Christmassy.

Go to your local HVAC supply house and get some cool gel. I hear it works great.
