Default How to Finish a barreled upper

Can anyone tell me how hard it is to finish the barreled upper in this listing?

Is there any more welding that needs to be done and is the cocking tube difficult to assemble?

you will need a cardboard box, a few hundred dollars a trash can,and some patients. Take cardboard box and place gun inside. Ship to Ghillie or Chopstix. have them assemble and finish gun. Replace inferior parts with real HK and RCM parts as needed. throw mag, crappy bolt head, etc, in trashcan. enjoy.

:0 I have always wanted to put one together from stratch but I am not a great welder. I was hoping I could get a little experience assembling just as long as I do not have to do anymore welding to the upper.

    ronin721,
No welding......but you will need some skills in painting or powder coating. The rest of the project can be finished with simple hand tools.

since it doesnt show the bolt hold or anything, I would ask if it has been welded on, see if the mag release is in place like in the photo, and if the triple frame is in place. The 40 cal has feed ramp things inside the trunnion that have to be welded in place before putting the trunnion in the receiver, and since they go at a certain angle it is good that it is already done. Send him an email and ask if all welding has been done, he will prolly reply. its a low price. Looks like it may be parkerized. Maybe you should ask if they come parked or painted or what also. Guys name is Todd.

Actually, I think it does require some welding if you want to totally finish it - I can't tell for sure because they don't show the other side, but it looks like the parts for the bolt hold open are in a baggie, one above the bottom row on the right side. I think those parts are the bushings, rod, and handle for the bolt catch assembly.

If you didn't care about that, then it would only need to be assembled and painted. Ideally, you will want to have it abrasive blasted before painting, but even that isn't 100% necessary. All you really need is an airbrush or paint sprayer and some duracoat.

Then the fun begins - getting it to run. And there's where you may also need things like grinders, etc.
