this is the same argument that has been going on for years in the AR community on with is best, COLT or any of the other makers. I doubt this will go any easier.

Me, basically I could care less what is stamped in the metal. Certainly won't pay inflated prices for such. What I do care about is whether it goes bang EVERY time I pull the trigger and there are plenty clones that do that well . It is one thing collecting for collection purposes it is another for practicality purposes.

Amen to that! All my clones have proper bolt gaps, German internals, and run like a top. I can't complain... I'm not in to museum pieces, I like to shoot.

And just so any of the builders dont get the wrong idea I am not really talking about the quality of the builds themselves, we all know there are some phenomenal HK builders around that do a great job. I am mostly talking about the durability and quality of the US made parts when compared to original German parts/barrels. I dont think alot of semi auto guys will understand this. When you shoot full auto you get to see it much better. I have seen it first hand when shooting full auto, visible wear on us made bcg parts (firing pins mushrooming, metal deforming)where german bcg parts show no wear whatsoever after much more usage. .. Just because it looks like a original doesnt mean it will perform the same....

Oh, and only two malfunctions... #1 was a bad shell casing which bent the extractor spring which caused #2.

My answer to the question? You can buy some really really good clones these days... fit, finish, fuction--all phenominal but will not have been tested to the extent that HK tests their guns. As such, no, there are no clones as good as a real HK. But it all boils down to what you want and why you are buying it.

+1. I will note though that I personally feel very confident with the RCM products. After 7000 rounds my BCG only exhibits signs of finish wear and the bore in the barrel still looks great. I need to get some guage pins to measure how much actual wear has taken place. Mike and I have also been discussing doing a squib clearing test on one of their barrels to see how it bulges (bulge, split or fragment). I'd like to see it done on both a Nitride and non-Nitride barrel to see if the Nitride has any negative affect due to its surface hardening.

WELL said my friend. My 2 JLD builds run flawless with high bolt gaps and many HK intermals also. If I spend $2500 on an HK91, its going to be mint and stay in the safe. I fully agree. And i actually SHOOT my weapons, unlike many others who dabble in them.

    Joe,
Good idea with the barrel bulge test. Nitride coating definately wil effect it. Curious to see to what extent? Please keep me posted if you & Mike go through with the test.

If one is comparing standard PTR and Vector products to HK the HK Gun wins every time, hands down. That being said I feel their still a good deal for the money.
    Century is not even close.
