    Default PTR91 stock question

I just got a PTR91 and took it out to sight it in today. Recoil seemed a bit excessive compared to an M1A or bolt .308. SInce I had a couple extra stocks from cheper than dirt laying around I deided to pop one on and see if perhaps I had a bad buffer in the factory stock. well reoil seemed to be signifigantly reduced with the HK stock. So I thought I would go ahead and swap the buffer out and see if it felt better with the PTR stock. When I took the buffer out of the HK stock everything looked just as it is pictured here http://http://www.mg-42.net/G3_buttstock.htm. However when I went to remove the buffer from the PTR91 stock I noticed that there was not a buffer tube, colored light green in the pic, nor was there a third screw holding the buffer tube on. So my quation is, is this normal on the PTRs? Does the lack of tube effect function?

It could be my immagination but I think the rifle had less recoil with the HK stock then it did with the HK buffer in the PTR stock without the buffer tube and third screw.

That is exactly how my PTR91 stock was as well.

Eventually I bought a Magpul PRS stock, and replaced the stock buffer with a heavy HK buffer. The difference is subtle but noticeable.

I did not notice a demonstrable change in recoil between the HK stock and the PTR91 stock as you did.
