PTR 91 Question - Cutting barrel.

I am not familiar with the PTR 91, however I might be acquiring one via trade. I see that the pitch on threading in something like 1x15RH (I am sure I am wrong on specifics).

Here is the question for you Clone experts. Can I replace the barrel, cut a thread to 5/8 x 24, to use with my AAC Cyclone? Do you forsee any issues?

You can cut and rethread if it comes to it; I found an adapter from a vendor here on the forum that I've used with success for the last couple of years with my HVT (also 5/8x24) so I didn't have to rethread mine (which would have been a pain since it lives 99% of the time on a V51 with no additional barrel to chop).

As far as what to expect, it'll be louder IME than a bolt gun, probably louder than a FAL, but still quiet enough for field use in limited quantities.

Of course, after I post it, I don't see a M15x1.0 to 5/8-24 in the list. Woun't hurt to ask...

The spec you're thinking of is M15x1 RH, not 1x15. It's a 15mm diameter thread, with 1mm pitch between threads.

You can't recut M15 threads to 5/8-24 because the 5/8-24 is a bigger thread. The minimum outside diameter of a 5/8-24 thread is .6166". A 15mm thread is already well under that at .590" nominal. If you tried it, you'd end up with a very sloppy fit, and wouldn't be able to clean up all of the old M15 thread first.

You'll have to cut the 15mm threads to a size well under 15mm, then thread it and screw a sleeve onto it with 5/8-24 external threads on it.

I think rfurtkamp means cut the threads off the end of the barrell, recrown and rethread at 5/8-24. The OP's question was wether or not it was possible to rebarrell for new threads as I read it. Well, yeah, you can, but why when you could just cut less than an inch off of it (the threads), recrown it, and rethread it to any die that will fit? FWIW, I thought PTR's heavy barrells were 3/4" o.d. and threaded 5/8-24 to begin with, though I can't seem to find data on it anywhere.

I was thinking of cutting the barrel, recrown and then thread to Mil Spec.
I would prefer not to do it if I can avoid.

TROS wouldn't make one for me in that combo, which was why I tried what I could get my hands on.
