    Default Gah, this isn't good.

    Hello,

I am a new HK45C owner and am noticing something I don't like with it. Let me preface this by saying I am a relatively new gun owner.

The gun is getting little brass nick marks all over the slide on top and by the ejection port from ejected brass bouncing off the booth into the gun. I can't get them off though! Brass shells are putting scratches in my slide? Doesn't make sense since my XD9 has no marks on it at all in over 7,000 rounds. I have tried to clean it with a couple different gun oils and cleaners, all with no luck. Ideas?

    Thanks,
    Steve

Once the honeymoon is over, you'll see it as a tool rather than a shiny new acquisition. Those marks bothered me too, 8 or so guns ago. Now I decide in the beginning to either shoot it or put it in the safe new. If I shoot it, I accept and love every idiot mark or sign of wear I put on it.

I also keep in mind that having the gun refinished is always an option down the road.

I had the same experience with my P2000:

After a few more trips to the range/cleanings, they disappeared. Nothing to worry about.

    Steve,
The brass deposits will be removed as you keep cleaning it after each shooting session, dont spend alot of time on trying to remove them. They might tend to 'move around', since the older brass deposits will be removed after a few cleanings, only to be replaced by newer ones from more recent sessions. Those are not scratches, just tiny brass deposits.

I found, that a drop of CLP on the brass deposits overnight, they will wipe right off with a clean patch.

There are safe queens and then worker guns. If I want my gun to stay perfect, I don't shoot them. But they better be pretty special or rare for me to not shoot.

However, you can always hide imperfection by getting them refinished and love the looks all over again.

Those brass marks are easily removed with a good copper remover like Barnes CR-10, Sweets 7.62, or Shooter's Choice copper remover. Use a little on a Q-tip to dab the liquid on the marks and rub very lightly and the Q-tip will turn blue and the marks will go away. Oil lightly after using because the copper remover strips away all oil. It will not hurt the finish unless you leave it on there for a long time (over 30 minutes) or rub way too hard.

I've put a couple of hundred rounds at the range through my USP and don't have any of those marks.

I do hwever have them on the inside of the slide, opposite side of the extractor.

+1 for Big Bore. I never got into copper removal too much. Just got some cheap hoppe's copper solvent. Worked great.
