Default MINI red dot sight mounted on USP, Possible?

I was looking at a picture of the FN FNP 45 with a Trijicon mini red dot sight mounted on the slide. Is this posible on the HK USP? A picture of the FN gun is on there USA site. Its the FNP tactical handgun

Certainly. All you need is a base that replaces the rear sight and then the optic mounts to that base. Even if a base is not made specifically for the USP I would bet any smith worth his salt could modify or make one for it. It's not rocket surgery.

Here is one for the JPoint: JPOINT

It looks like that sits on top of the slide. I was thinking about the possibility of machining the side so the sight sits down as low as possible. Is this a dumb idea?

Anything is possible if you're willing to spend the money:

These mini- HUD's are tricky to use with pistols. You have to line that pistol up just right to see the dot. If it's off even a little, you will have no sights at all. (hence my modification above)
What's more, in the dark, you cannot see the frame or the pistol and therefore have NO frame of reference to line it up at all.

The current generation of mini HUD's is NOT ready for prime time tactical use at this time, IMO.

I am currently in discussions with Burris to get them to release a P7 pistol mount that i had designed, as well as incorporating my improvements into a new model Fastfire.

David Bowie from Bowie Tactical Solutions is one of the innovators of putting red dot optics on handguns. If I was going to do it, that's who I'd use.
