    Default The MP7 and 5.7mm.

I'm a little lost. Can someone clue me in, to what is so special about the MP7?

And why all the talk about 5.7 mm? Is that something H&K produces a firearm in?

    Thanks.

HK produces the MP-7 PDW firing the 4.6x30mm.

FN produces the P90 PDW firing the 5.7x28mm.

Both are lightweight, high-velocity rounds. Their purpose of use is defeating body armor.

The MP7 is special because HK makes it and they refuse to share it with us, haha.

Some people have a love affair with 5.7mm so it comes up whenever HK's 4.6mm comes up.

Kind of like if you talk about a WRX STi someone always chimes in about an Evo.

I'd like to shoot a 4.6mm, I actually have a 5-7 and love it, def one of my top handguns. how many rounds does a mp7 hold, the P90 holds 50 and if the recoil is anything like a 5-7, its would be a cinch to handle at full auto.

MP7 magazines are available in 20, 40 and a new 30-rd capacity. As the MP7 is a locked breech weapon and the P90 an unlocked breech that relies on cartridge case set-back to operate the bolt the two rounds and weapons are considerably different though many folks place them in the same category. The MP7/4.6 can handle greater bullet weights and therefore has greater growth potential than the 5.7 round defeating the NATO CRISAT plate at 300 meters with the "Ultimate Combat" AP round verus a maximum of @ 170 meters for the 5.7mm AP round. That is why the HK UCP/P46 pistol development stopped. The 4.6x30mm cartridge was simply too powerful for the locking system of the handgun. The 5.7 round needs a special cartridge case lubricant for reliable extraction. The 4.6 does not. Look at the shoulder of a 5.7 round after firing and compare it to a live round - the shoulder set-back is clearly visible. The FN P90 actually fires slightly out of battery - meaning the base of the catridge case is slightly unsuported in the rear of the chamber before the projectile has left the bore/while the case is still pressurized. This is why FN could get it to work in the Five Seven pistol.
