So, I was going to initiate a new left-handed thread on this forum but decided to resurrect this one instead.
By way of background, I am left-handed, have been shooting for 10+ years, but still consider myself quite inexperienced. So apologies in advance if the following seems a bit uninformed.
As a left-hander, I did a bunch of research before I bought a handgun and first purchased a P7M13. Quite a nice starter handgun, but I really appreciated the design, safety, quality and ambidextrous design of the piece. I've not tried the P30, but in researching a shotgun recently I came across a Benelli designed for left-handers that had the ejector moved to the left side. That is, the spent shell (in this case) does not have to cross your line of sight, or mis-direct in to your face after you fire. Nice design and I'll likely purchase one.
Seems to me that an ideal handgun for left-handers would have a similar design. Yes, the ejector is further from your face, but the spend shell is still ejected across your line of sight, and more than once, it got pretty close to my right eye.
I can't imagine ever moving away from H&K (well I have defected once - I have a Benelli MP45 .22 that is also completely ambi and I believe ejects virtually straight up; it's a nice piece) but does anyone know of any handgun with a left-sided ejector?

And thank you very much (III The Chad III) for your service to out country.

HK has really gone above and beyond in providing weapons to their primary customer, Mil/LEO. When Gov's or police departments buy weapons they buy in bulk...lots of guns...lots of mags...lots of parts. They aren't really worried about having weapons that are customizable because customizable is expensive. I don't know how many times I have had a 5.56 case smack me in the face or fumbled with the safety on the M9. With the P30/P2000/SK/HK45 you have a gun that is straight out of the box and will work with everyone. It is truly completely ambi. Ambi slide release, ambi safety (except HK45), ambi mag release, not to mention the backstraps make a stock pistol feel like it was made for you. I would say HK did a damn good job pleasing their target audience, and in the meantime offered civi's a great weapon. So when I as a lefty see a gun that I can operate completely naturally, you better believe I'm jumping on that, and I believe a lot of other lefty's did too.

Technically, it shouldn't matter what side the spent shell is ejected from. You should be looking down the center of the gun. For me, I'm right handed but left eye dominant so I aim with my left eye and I guess you could say the spent shell crosses my line of sight in my right eye since I keep both eyes open while shooting.

Decocking is a non-critical skill, so it really shouldn't matter which side of the pistol the decocker might be. Same with the slide stop. Most efficient way to close the slide is to rack it.

Deactivating the Safety is a critical skill however and if you have an external safety you must deactivate it every time you draw the pistol even if you never activate it. Mister Murphy will set it On the one vital time you need it Off. Ya gotta switch it to Fire even if it's already there. Ambidextrous external safeties are de rigueur for left-handed shooters.

The best solution remains no manual safety at all. Think Glock, S&W M&P and (of course) HK LEM. If your agency or service insists on DA/SA find one that decocks only like HK V3/V4, SIG, or the Beretta M92G (golf) model.

Thanks Chuck I was going to make that very same comment just convert it to LEM and be done with it.

Thanks. I have to take a very fine look at my position and motion. I might just have a 'left-handed bias' (where so many devices are built explicitly for right-handers that any time I see an asymmetric design, I presume a negative impact to my 10% of the population). Perhaps my thinking re the shotgun design, where there clearly is an issue, just carried my thought.
The other comments though, re the symmetric design of the piece is appreciated, but not germane to my (perceived) issue. It IS the reason why I purchased a P7M* and am considering another well-designed H&K.
