    Default USPSA shooters

I am trying to figure out what division I will be placed in if I am shooting a USP 9mm Combat Competition with jet funnel magazine extension.

From reading the rules I would think that would put you in the Limited Devision, as long as a jet funnel mag is less then 5.561”. Otherwise you would be in open. Obviously you can't be in production or limited 10 because of mag capacity.

ETA: The jet funnel itself my fall under this catagory which would keep you from competing in limited...not sure though.

    Prohibited modifications:
External modifications or features such as weights or devices to
control or reduce recoil (such as but not limited to thumb rests or
components which could be used as such).

I am pretty sure you can compete in production or limited 10. Just load 10 in the mag. Production is my choice with a Beretta M9 or HK P-30

I was under the impression that you had to have a 10 round mag...may be wrong though.

Here's the gospel, no speculation - http://www.uspsa.org/rules/production_list.php The Combat Competition would place you in Limited or you could download and shoot L10.

You can download standard capacity mags and only load 10 for Production. In Production Division, you are limited by firearm make and model as noted on the list.

Here is the meat and potatoes keeping you out of production...no room for interpritation here.

USP Expert and Combat Competition not allowed due to magwell.

Looks like limited here I come. Never shot in an USPSA match before so I am sure that I am in for an eye opening.

Am I wrong to assume that the limited class has better shooters in it than production? Or does it not matter?

I find it weird that a magwell is considered that much of an advantage to bump me up in class and I don't see anyway that a magwell helps reduce felt recoil. It must be the aid in reloading quicker?

If it really bothers you then get the standard lanyard loop and take the jet funnel off. I'm not sure if the sights and match trigger would keep you out of production or not. The guys that know the rule book will be able to tell you. I know more about IDPA than USPSA

The quality of shooters in any class is totally dependent on your club. On the other hand, if someone has enough money and interest to create a gun that works in open class with a red dot sight, $300 of gunsmithing, and a huge bolt on mag well, chances are they have shot enough to be proficient with it. I have shot production and gotten my @$$ kicked, and I've also shot limited and done really well. All depends on who is there and what they want to shoot.
