Default Glock 19 to P30 Transition

I've shot a variety of guns but have almost exclusively shot a G19 for the last six months as I really tried to get the most from that platform. The H&K bug bit hard and I purchased a P30, my fourth H&K. I was surprised that the transition wasn't a little smoother, as I shot the other H&K's considerably better with a lot less effort. I was dry firing, adjusting my grip, which seemed to help me pick up the front sight much better. I'm sure trial and error will eventually get me back to my usual level of accuracy. Anyone have any tips to shorten the process?

What variant do you got? Whatever it is, just stick with it. Focus on your P30 for the next six months and leave all your other guns in the safe. Also try a different set of grip panels every time you take it out until you find a setup that works. Most people (including myself) find that the medium is the most comfortable, but I'm a lot better shot when I use the large sides and backstrap. Picking up a set of Heinie Straight Eights is a wise investment too.

I have both the Glock 19 and the P30 (two of each of them). The Glock 19's are reliable and boring as hell and I don't like the way they point or the grips feel but they do go bang when you pull the trigger. You probably just aren't used to the very natural feel and pointing of the P30. The P30 has the best ergonomics of any Handgun I have ever owned and I have owned just about everything. The P30 points great, you can pretty much just point the gun where you want to shoot without looking at the sights and then look through the sights and you will be damn close to right on target. You can't do that with a Glock in my opinion unless you train like crazy first to do so. You may have trained enough that you are compensating for the way the Glock points. Dry fire is probably a good way to train this out (following all safety precautions).

Enjoy the P30, it's a fantastic firearm. You'll probably be adding an HK45C soon as well - just about the same size in .45 - just wish it had the same grips as the P30 - but it's still very good and better than most.

    Enjoy!

No real short cuts, other than practice, dry fires etc.

Variant three. I've put 250 rounds thru it, and at times everything clicks, with spectacular results. IMO HK triggers, are acceptable, but I understand how someone shooting one for the first time after exclusively shooting a lighter style action would have problems with it. I'm looking forward to learning to run this platform!

I discovered after some experimentation that the small side panels and the medium backstrap was the best configuration for naturally pointing the gun and for having smoother trigger control. I suggest you try different combos as well if you haven't already.

I changed my EDC from the Glock 19 to a P30 V1 LEM last summer. Never warmed up to the Glock grip angle. The P30 fit my hand like no other with the medium grip panels. After a couple thousand rounds and tons of dry firing, I am every bit as accurate with my P30. The light LEM trigger is incredible!

Try experimenting with the backstrap and side panels.

After shooting the Glock for so many years, followed by a 1-year stint with the M&P, it took me a solid six months to get up to speed with the P30. It wasn't the ergos, it was the difference in trigger, namely the DA/SA transition. Now, after several thousand rounds, I am now as proficient with the P30 as I was the G34. It takes time and dedication and believe me, switching platforms and expecting to perform at previous levels takes time and determination.

I agree, trigger reset is also a factor for me. Even when compared to the USP the P30 has a longer trigger reset, and compared to the Glock it's much longer.
