Default P30 in .40 nose dived today at the range. Anyone else have this experience?

    Hey all,

Was at the range this past weekend with a friend of mine. Both of us have p30s in 40 caliber. We only ran 180 grain ammo through them. Mine has been flawless from day one. A friend of mine experienced a nose dive type of jam. The ammo in question was federal american eagle fmj. Other than that both of our p30s ran flawlessly with various jhp's.

This was the first time that I had seen this type of jam, although I have read about it in the past. Anyone else have this experience? What is this jam typically due to? I have experienced failures to feed and failures to eject on a 1911 but not this type of malfunction. If it happens again I will make sure to take a pic

    Thanks

By "nose dive" what do you mean exactly?

The OP should clarify, but usually it means a feed-related problem where the round hits the feed ramp wrong and ends up nose down instead of in the chamber.

That's exactly right, instead of feeding into the chamber, the round went "down" instead of up. No other problems like this before. Approximately 300 rounds through the gun

Never had any issues with Federal AEs

    Sounds like a magazine issue

Whenever I've observed this type of stoppage, it is often times associated with a poor grip.

If this happened with more than one person shooting, probably mag springs. If it was only one person, check the mag. If it was one mag, probably mag spring. If it's multiple mags (or only happened once) probably just had a little limp wrist for that shot.

Clean your mags and double check your grip if the problem still occurs then maybe it's a weak mag spring.

Or an out of spec bullet or bent feed lips or some other debris that snagged the round at the front for the magazine allowing it to be spun overtop of itself.

I would be highly suspicious of a week grip on the pistol.

I have had a couple (2) of failure to feeds with my previously owned .40 P2000...both mag spring related.
