FWIW, I have never removed an o-ring from any of my HK pistols and I am fanatical about keeping them clean too. I don't want to prematurely wear out an o-ring stretching it on and off the barrel.

The funny thing is that i probably have 30 or so o-rings that have come with the USP's I have bought over the years.

I guess since the actual effectiveness of the O-ring has been called into question on many occasions, it seems logical that you should now at least take advantage of the groove in the barrel for a little "bling." I'm sure there would be a huge aftermarket opportunity for someone who could produce the O-rings in many different styles and colors to match our outfits while shooting. I, myself, would be partial to a tiger-striped variation with orange and black. Grrrrrr....

O-ring that shows wear...turns a color that indicates it needs to be changed. :)

How about an O-ring that was full of holes which could be used as a sponge. To keep and dispense oil when needed.

I just swapped my Mark23 from black to green. I just cut it with a knife and replaced the it with a green.

I've heard that it doesn't really do anything, but I've always been curious. I don't know how a squishy piece of rubber could "lock" the barrel with any amount of repeatable accuracy, but...

If anyone out there has an O-ring equipped H&K and a rest, and cares to fire the pistol with and without the O-ring, then the results should finally prove if the O-ring does anything.
