HK45C all the way. If this group buy goes down, great time to jump on board HK train. I'm a bit impulsive buying/trading guns, but never have even thought about including one of my HKs in a trade/sell.

I personally love the 45C trigger!

Comparing a Para Companion to a M1911 is an insult. Maybe compare it to a Kimber, but not to a good M1911. The M1911 was not replaced because it was troublesome, it's in fact quite the opposite. Until folks dick with it. Like cast extractors, short barrels, etc.

The M1911 is still the choice of several "elite" forces and knowledgeable armed professionals.

I had one of the early versions with the hammer and full beavertail grip safety. Not a thing wrong with it other than the LDA trigger being exceptionally busy and the frame safety lock being redundant and not working like a real M1911. Unlike LEM there is no short reset with LDA, the trigger has go go all the way forward like a revolver to shoot followup shots.

Also note the Companion is a 3.5" barrel and these lil beasties are not all day range pistols.

That's the original model (stock photo). The later models with no hand protection were easier to conceal but slide bite was the order of the day.

The HK LEM system is superior to the Para LDA system in my experience. But don't judge real M1911s by the Para Companion (or Kimber or Ruger or SIG, etc.).

Are they good collectors/shooters...sure!...but If I want to stake my life on a gun that will function 100% without doubt...no 1911 on the planet has the confidence level my HK does...and if I want a motorcycle that's 100% reliable, well I just won't own another motorcycle lol....

The OP states he is unimpressed by his Para's sub-par performance...I doubt very much an HK45 will share the same fate....if he doesn't like the trigger there are quite a few threads on how to make it better...
American soldiers staked their lives on the M1911 for almost a century, some units still do... Hell even some SWAT units use 1911's. I'm going to shut up after this because this thread is to help the OP get into a HK but all I'm saying is don't disrespect the 1911, it's a great and still relative design... Remember HK (USP's/P-series/HK45s) are HEAVILY influenced by the M1911.

If I had a professional armorer to maintain my gear and continue to feed a steady stream of parts to a pistol that already costs over $1000 I might stake my life on one...but comparing Military to Civilian is just not the same thing...agreed that Para's aren't in the same catergory as a Colt Gov't model of yesteryear and in no way am I calling them all 'junk'...But hands down no contest an HK45 is a better value than 99.99% of any rebutable 1911 on the planet...period

And INFLUENCED BY translates to engineered to make the design better...in every conceivable way...at the end of the day progress is progress....

I should clarify. I am not saying my Para doesn't shoot well. It does!! I just like that guns like HK, Glock, act work better in-between cleanings than my particular para. I
really do like the gun. It's a tight, compact package. It shoots well, just gets finicky as the round count goes up.
