Default How many mags do you have?

I was just courious as to how many magazines people have for their pistols. I used to be of the "if it came with two from the factory that's good enough for me" line of thinking, but I keep seeing more of the benefits of having more than that. Not just in the amount of ammo you can readily have available, but also having mags pre-loaded before going to the rangecompetitions/, less wear and tear on individual mags, etc. I currently have 10 for my P2000 .40 and average four for others that I have.

I like to have a minimum of 5-6 mags per gun. The more the better.

I also am of the opinion that more is better in the mag department. Holy crap they are expensive though.

In an attempt to quantify this age old question asked by every noob in the universe, I have developed the......

    Mouseboy Mousegun Magazine Equation (MMME)

    ((R ÷ C = M)/L)F

    whereby...........

R ...... Rounds fired at trip to range per firearm
C ...... Capacity of magazine for said firearm
M ...... Number of mags needed per gun
L ...... How many times I find reloading mags at the range acceptable (1/L)
F ....... Wear factor (based on number of mags lost) (M/F)+M

For example, for a Beretta 92FS where I shoot 150 rounds, I need approximately 10 magazines because I only reload once. However, my "wear factor" is 1.3. Meaning in my lifetime, I will loose or wear out 3 of the 10. Therefore I need to buy 13 now (10 x 1.3).

When I carry, I carry the one mag in the gun. When I go to the range, I take the spare that came with the gun(s) I plan to shoot but a rarely even take the spare mag out of the bag.

Same holds true for my rifles although I just bought a lot of 8 mags for my HK91... but I only did so because of the price. I foresee them sitting in the safe collecting dust for the next 10 years :)

For me it's a minimum of 4 magazines per gun. You don't have to buy them all at once... but I like to get them within a month or two of purchase / Carry.

My USPc .40 came with 2 - 12 round mags. I got 2 more 10 rounds mags from CDNN for $9.99 ea. Good enough, and hard to beat.

Its actually very simple, I could show you how it works in person VERY easily in about 60 seconds.....

Actually, there needs to be some sort of "political landscape" factor added to the equation. I'm working on it, trying to make it as simple of an addition to the existing equation as possible.
