IMO the P30 is a compact, the P30L would be a full size.
Its dimensions make it seem like a tweener on paper, but the grip and the way the sights are pushed toward the ends of the slide make it shoot more like a full-size. Including myself, I know of three people who have a fair amount of range time on a full-size USP 9mm and a P30. We all shoot consistently better with the P30. I loaned my P30 to a guy at my range who could barely hold a 6-inch group with a rented Sig P220, and he shot a 3-inch group. FWIW, I originally planned to hold out for a P30L, but the P30 shoots so well that I'm glad I didn't wait.
