    Default Clean out the mags?

Anyone clean out the mags of their HKs as a routine? How often should you clean out the internals on a mag?

Noticed that mine have a bit of powder on the inside near where the follower moves up and down. Wondering if I should spray it out or something.

I don't have a manual in front of me, but I think my USP manual says to take the magazine assembly apart after 500 rounds and clean it. Otherwise brush off the top of the magazine with cleaner after use.

At least that is what I'm going by.

that one magazine has over 1200 or the entire gun?

I'm using 4 different magazines for my P30 and I have 6 for my USP. So it will be a while before any one of the magazines hits 500 on their own. If I use each magazine the same amount of times it will be approx. 2,000 gun rounds for the P30 before a mag clean and about 3,000 gun rounds for the USP.

Again, this is assuming I'm correct in reading the manual as 500 rounds for the magazine assembly cleaning.

    I'll double-check tonight.

Mag cleaning is far more important than gun cleaning. While I don't clean my guns but once a year, I do clean my mags. Anytime it I get sand, rocks, or mud on them, they'll get cleaned.

    Get the Arredondo mag brush.

i would imagine that they mean every 500 rounds through a single mag. unless somehow your mags get dirty when not being used. :)

With semi-auto firearms, they are only as reliable as their respective feeding mechanisms. Detachable mags often get dropped on the ground. While it's not such a big deal at an indoor range, they can get sand, dirt, etc. in them when you dump them at an outdoor range. -You have to clean the mags as needed if you want the firearm to function reliably.

Ok I just read the USP Owners Manual, on page 38 and 39 it essentially says this:

Normal cleaning: done after every firing session
Major cleaning: done after 500 rounds or when the gun has been exposed to dirt, sand etc.

It then says that during normal cleaning you should scrub the top of the magazine and wipe it down fully.

For major cleaning you should disassemble the magazine and clean all parts by rinsing them or soaking them in solvent. Dry them off with patches or compressed air.

    good luck!

Gonna tage my mags apart this weekend and give them a good cleaning. Been 1200 or so rounds on the 2 that came with my P30 (can't find stock on extra mags).
