Default to buy HK usp tactical 45 or 40

I am deciding either 45 or 40. Kind of like 45 but love to hear pro and con for those who shot it --I have not.

I have both calibers, a USP .40 full size, and and .45 tactical. I would go for the .45 because the ammo is more readily available, in the U.S. and elsewhere. In a pinch, when the zombies start raging around or during other post-apocolyptic drama, I think .45 will be easier to come by than .40 ammo.

Whichever one you shoot better. I have a tac 40 and love it, just really like the round. But your experience may vary.

I might as well say it, since someone will likely be doing so shortly, the standard HKpro.com answer is "Buy both"......

If you want an actual pro vs con list though:

    40 pros:
    -Ammo slightly cheaper
-carries more rounds/can add funnel if thats your thing (I have one and like it)

    40 cons:
-some people hate the recoil on 40's, they are snappy
-Smaller hole than a 45 (don't want to start a balistics/caliber war though)

    45 pro's:
    -well....its a bigger bullet........
    -Recoil not as snappy

    Cons:
-holds fewer rounds (most likely a non issue since I haven't been attacked by a mass of zombi's in a while)
-Ammo is a little more, gun costs a little more overall

OK... am I the only HKPro member not obsessed with Night of the Living Dead? I think this whole board needs a good dose of Shawn of the Dead to get it out of their collective system.

I don't understand the 40 S&W round. 9mm ammo is cheaper and easier to find. If you need or want more power than 9mm, why not go with a .45? If you're going with a Tactical, you're obviously not concerned with a full size weapon and are likely not going to use it for CCW. Thus mag size isn't that important. Don't they make a USP Tactical in 9mm? If I were you, I'd try out both a 9mm and a .45 and make a choice.

I think it really boils down to caliber preference. Although, I can't remember if the .40 comes with the o-ring or not.

40 S&W is for those that can't decide between 9mm and 45ACP. So split it right down the middle.

OR...in my case...if you get an unbeatable deal on a 40. There are lots of police trade-ins floating around at really good prices.

tquieng, do you already have a number of guns in either caliber? If all other things are equal to you, go for the cartridge that you already may be stocking.

45ACP *might* be a tad more available, but thanks to heavy Law Enforcement use the 40S&W is practically as varied and widespread.

The 40 and 45 share all the same technical features, other than obviously the caliber.

The 9mm SD on the other hand does not have the match trigger, actually I don't think it has the O-ring either, but does have the threaded barrel and taller sights.

I also have both. IMO the .45 is the way to go but that is not surprise to anyone, is it?

The Tactical does not come in 9mm. The 9SD looks very similar to the Tactical with the threaded barrel and match sights but it does not have the match trigger or o-ringed barrel, nor does the slide say anything other than USP.

Here is an old picture of all three plus the Mark 23 to give you an idea of how they compare visually. The 9SD and the Tac .40 have Jet Funnels.
