Being a relatively new owner of an HK myself (even if its a clone SAR), I really like the HK Armorer's Manual for the G3/HK91.
Might not be a tool per say but I still think a handy go-to book/manual is just as helpful.
Hi,
I'm the PROUD new owner of TWO PTR-91's. I have gunsmithing education and experience on almost everything BUT HK stuff. I just figured out that HK's are the best around and I DUMPED all my AR's....
Anyway, if a few of you would kindly post what tools would have made your life easier would you have had them out of the gate, I would appreciate it very much!
Post everything from manufacturing tools to simple assem/disass tools.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

We will assume that discussing user / field service and not consider fixtures to change the barrel etc. ;-).
Cleaning:
You should get the chamber brush and face brush to clean with.
Good cleaning rod, jag and bronze/brass/nylon bore brushes with out cut steel centers
Patches to fit.
USGI tooth brush and bottle brush to fit the receiver.
Swabs / Qtips / Pipe cleaners
Bore clean of choice (Barrett Bore cleaner is replacing my former Shooters choice / Kroil)
Good action cleaner (CLP or Mineral Spirits or MPro7 or every day Hoppies #9)
Lube (CLP or the flavor of you choice)
Some type of punch / tool to fit the eye of the extractor spring.
Extra extractor springs
Extra roller plate and a couple of the pins.
General Tools:
Set of feeler gauges to check bolt gap, set of punches, plastic punch to push the receiver pins with on some clones, small hammer, needle nose pliers and smooth jaw pliers (or something to rotate the bolt with when is clicks shut on you ;-).
P.S. Would have kept at least one AR, HK makes a nice upper for them ;-).
Regards
John

#591 is a great cleaning kit for the HK91 and its for a great price too (hkparts.net charges $25 for EACH brush and these guys charge $29.95 for the whole kit)- https://elmfg.com/store/brushes.html
I acually used a cresent wrench to turn my bolt head when it locked. Just take it slow and steady, don't try to force anything too hard. This is otherwise a great list but to be honest I haven't needed the chamber brush just yet. I guess I need to shoot it more OH DAMN.
when it locks you just turn it, pull it out and try again...
Great suggestion on the cleaning kit from E&L Mfg Co. Lifetime warranty and great price! No better way to clean my new H&K G3 build.

Dont forget the HK rear sight adjustment tool !
For cleaning and lubing i like to use cheap gunshow swabs, they are heavy cotton on the end of a long wire, great for getting into the receiver area.
