Default HK/PTR 91 Getting Expensive To Shoot

As my the other post in HK Clone thread, I just ordered a PTR-91F from CDNN (Rep. Cody is TOP NOTCH!). Hopefully it would get here tomorrow.

On the other hand, while I was helping out in my local gunshop, I checked 380 WIN ammo prices. Geez, the price for a box of 20 cartridges is $17.00 average!! Even with the employee discount, the cheapest I gotta pay for a box is about $15 to $16 USD. That means a bullet is like ... like ... buying a Jelly-O shot in bar! Or to put the other way, the bullet for HK-91 is close to the bullet for 30-06! That's outrage!

30-06 is scoped/snipe rifle. I can enjoy my time and take 3 minutes for a shot to the target 150+ yards away. HK/PTR-91 is considered as semi-auto sporting rifle. I can easily empty the whole 20rd mag within 7 seconds.

I know it is a weird compare. However, I just can't believe how much money I am going to spend on the newly PTR-91... Maybe it is gonna be my wall hanger....

*EDIT myself: Thanks, UncleBilly, HK/PTR-91 uses .308 round.*

as the old saying goes, if you wanna play you gotta pay.

'course now that you can have a bayonet lug, you can always fix bayonets and run to stab the target instead of shooting at it

I image a lot of folks with .308 rifles are not shooting them due to ammo prices, unless they stocked up heavily before the prices went through the roof.

I pretty much seen the handwriting on the wall a couple three years back, when there was no new .308 being imported. So over time everytime I went to a local gunshow I bought a tub of 1260 rounds of South African when it was 250 bucks a tub, and squirreled it away

there are a few threads on some other gunboards that there will be .308 coming in from Korea and Turkey. I don't put much stock in that, I will believe it when I see it. But, IF there is, don't expect it to be cheap, and giving the feeding frenzy for ammo, it will probably go fast.

Expect to pay .47 to .87 cents per round for surplus - commercial stuff is just prohibitive!

Makes me very sad that I didn't just fill up my Suburban with South African 7.62 the first time that I went to AIM Surplus and it was $18 a battle pack, or the second time when it was $22. I killed two cases that summer and I was only 19 or so with out that much income, now I am afraid to empty a battle pack. Like Uncle Billy says now you have to pay to play, but then 7.62 was cheap!

Makes me glad I bought about 7K from AIM when they had it cheap. The funny thing is I didn't even have an HK at the time. I bought it all for my 1919a4. I have since sold the 1919 and picked up an HK91, so I am stocked up at least for a little while.

Yeah, but it is still hard to shoot up your reserve when you know that to replace those rounds will be very expensive. At least that's how I feel about it.

My Privi 308 ammo costs me $12.00 a box and it's hot enough to shoot and have fun with. But even then I only take her out on occasion.

    Ammo prices suck anymore.

Know what you mean, I ended up moving the 1919A4 to 30-06 and 8mm and keeping a dozen boxes of Port and SA for the HKs and FALs
