Default Identify this FMP HK21 Buffer

I recently acquired an original FMP HK21 Kit. Some parts are German and some are FMP. After examining some of the parts I came across a recoil buffer that I have never seen before. Can anyone tell me more about this buffer?

Looks to me like a first gen buffer. How long is the buffer tube behind the end cap?

I'll pull the butt plate off tomorrow to check it out. I was expecting the buffer to be a heavy buffer. I have a extra heavy and an E type buffer but I had never seen one so small. In fact it does not appear to be able to buffer anything at all because it's so small.

It looks like an FMP buffer that I purchased from Michaels Machines. Should be same diameter but shorter length than 21E buffer.

Also, the buffer doesn't travel far but it works well. I put together a clubfoot stock for the 91/G3 using the FMP buffer and other spare parts. Noticeable reduction in recoil.

Looks identical to the buffer I bought. Mike at MM can probably tell you more about them.

Thanks for the info, AZ_HK_Shooter. I still can't see how this buffer can be very effective. I guess there is still much to learn about HK's

The buffer pictured was built to work with the original cocking notch of the first gen HK21. The addition of a Later generation buffer would require a relocation of the cocking notch to allow the cocking handle to be locked back properly.

Recoil is more appearant with the first generation buffers. The later generation A1 and E buffers were created to allow the carrier to slow down earlier providing recoil reduction in the process.
