Default HDPS US Made UMP Uppers?

I read on their website that they are working on producing upper receivers for the UMP/USC, ain't that the controlled part of the gun? Like the serialized part of the firearm that is considered the actual "gun" component by the feds? If so, couldn't we put together our own UMP parts kits off of one of these with a few 922r parts and not have to buy a USC to convert?????????

Yep I believe that was Ed's intentions. Plus pistol builds would be a possibility. Various parties have supposedly been working on such a receiver for a long time. Haven't seen one yet though.

that would be very nice, especially a ump clone in 9mm.

I think the problem with a machined upper, would be the VERY deep cavities that need to be made... It would almost have to be made out of injection molded plastic, and then getting that whole deal setup would be quite difficult...

Plus if you machine the upper it becomes much heavier, pretty much destroying the whole point of the UMP in the first place.

Yep, that too. I would think it would be close to something like the Robarms XCR in weight...
