I think you just saved more then a few people a big headache. It required 2 trips to the creek for me to finally understand how to make the 3 point function correctly.

Thanks!

Well I just logged on and couldn't find my post..."What the?" After doing a little search, to my surprise,.. I have my very own "Sticky"

I just want to thank the moderators and people who's comments felt this was informative enough to consider it. When I set out to do this I never gave it a thought about it being a permanent fixture. I figured it would get some attention and then fall by the wayside in a week or two...again Thanks!

My original intention was to help out another member "Brahma‎" who seemed to be at his wits end with how the 3 point sling works...trust me, I was in your shoes at one time.
In all fairness to the function of the 3 point sling, I feel it is a work of art, versatile, and was truly a design ahead of its time, but what else would you expect?..its "HK".

While some may complain about how HK design incorporates metal to metal contact with there accessories, such as port buffers, carry handles, scope mounts etc., the design is for function..."its a Battle rifle". The best way to describe this is .. "If you put it on leave it on".

If you don't want to scratch the finish on a "NIB" gun, leave the accessories off!..period!

Turbo Com has a very nice set-up posted here.

NavyChief,

The hook on the tropical handguard is for the sling loop to hook on when you store it, is to reduce the size when you put it upright in the safe. his original purpose was for the BW soldier when he was on excersise to hook it in "a barn" on a nail that was available an to keep the rifle in sight and off the dirt floor. It is a strange thing H&K designed something like this for this purpose but that is the only true reason.

Regards,

Laluppa

Also, on the 308/7.62 rifles, there is a hole in the cocking handle. You can attach the front hook of the sling into this hole, and it allows you to rapidly operate the cocking handle, bu pulling on the sling.

This is especially good if you are in bad/cold weather, or if you are carrying the rifle with an empty chamber, and may need to quickly chamber a round.

I realize this is an older thread but I wanted to say thanks for keeping me from the cliff's edge.
I needed this broken down in pictures and explained in baby steps to have it make sense to me. Now it does.

The metal double loop on section 1 as well as section 1 itself is what enables the sling to serve as a multi-purpose sling.
Not sure what you mean by using a GI sling as an alternate.

The standard HK 2 point sling has a buckle on it to adjust for length and is of a different configuration. The section you have, number (2), does not have any means for adjustment if used by itself.

The slide buckle on section 2 (below) is used to adjust the length of section 1.

The sling mounting point on the A3 collapsible stock is fixed to the back plate. The rear clasp that are on the slings will fit both the A2 and A3 stocks.
Sling configuration will work on both stocks.

Obviously not a picture of a G3 but it shows the option of using both stocks on an MP5 with the 3 point sling.

I got a G3 3 pt sling from a member here and received it yesterday. WOW, such versatile piece of equipment. I know the 3pt sling gets a lot of negative feedback from the AR crowd but I don't understand why the 3pt sling isn't more widely used. Obviously there is more to get hung up on other gear and I haven't had a chance to use my 3pt sling with other gear yet, but so far I am very impressed. I love how it can draw the rifle tight and high against the body. No 2 point sling can do that. Great info in this thread.
