    Default Ambi vs. non Ambi selector levers

    I'm curious if people can comment on usage of the ambi selectors (like found on navy lowers) versus the non ambi ones (like on an HK 94 or an SEF lower).

    I have an SEF lower and find it hard to reach the selector and hard to move the selector (as compared to say an AR15). Curious if the ambi type selectors are comparatively easier to reach (for a right handed person) and take less pressure to move. Thanks.

    There are extended ambi selectors just like there are extended SEF selectors.

    Also - I like the ambi selectors and packs much better. They don't rely on frictional pressure against the outside of the housing from the selector lever itself. Instead, there is a detent on the internal part of the selector, and a spring-loaded lever pushes against it. They are pretty easy to push from safe to semi, and then from semi to burst or full, but a little harder to reach to push back down to safe.

    It doesn't leave that shiny bare-steel arc on the side of the housing either.

    So in terms of amount of pressure needed, is it easier to move the ambi selector from one position to another than it is for the SEF selector? How much easier in say a percentage measurement?

    Recent test data indicates that an ambi selector lever requires 56.37% less torque to rotate than an SEF pack.

    Ok, I've never measured it so that I could get a percentage difference. But the real answer is "it depends". On the SEF packs, you can take the lever out, bend the spring pressure tab either in or out to reduce or increase the friction.

    I have brand new ambi packs that take about the same amount of force as some of my SEF packs, and then I've also seen ambi packs that are so loose that just brushing them against your side is enough to move the lever around.

    Basically, they can be adjusted somewhat no matter which kind they are.
