I just read my post, I guess Budlight lime and typing dont mix :)...
Well, I thought I might give an easy step-by-step paddle install for the average garage smith. Then I figuered it has been beat to death, so Im just going to tell what I did differant. First I did this with all hand tools, no machines at all (well a cordless drill and dremel but no lathe or drill pres etc...), it can be done. First I used a 1/8" flat end carbide dremel bit to get rid of the "shelf" that is inside the mag well where the lower trigger group pin goes on a G3. It was very easy with the carbide bit on a "med" speed. Take some time and you can get it all out. This also eliminates the need to cover up (if you want) the "U" shaped notch behind the paddle that a mill makes when machining the inner shelf out. If you need more room for the paddle to move back in the semi shelf area, it can be done with a file, it doesnt take much. After I removed the inner shelf it was time to drill the pin hole. Instead of using a clipped lower to get the location of the pin, I simply put the paddle and mag release parts together to "bench fit" them. Then I measured how far apart the pin hole in that paddle and the shaft of the mag release was. I did alot of measuring in these areas! Then I went from the center of the mag release latch down to the shelf and marked it whit my measurement. That was it, and the pin locaton was perfect. I didnt use a drill press, I held the rifle in a padded vice and used a small level (the same one I use for my scopes) to make sure the shelf was level all the way around. Then I used the bubble level on my drill to drill in strait through the right side only shelf and 1/2 way into the left side. The way the inner shlef was welded there was not enough supprot around the paddles inner pin to hold it (it would flex and move when used), so what I had to do is weld up the pin on the right side of the shelf (I used a MIG for the spot wleds) and the I had to drill the left side of the shelf just behind the paddles inner pin, exposing half the pin (not drilling all the way through). Then I was able to spot wled the left side pin as well. So I eneded up welding both sides of the shelf, though I never drilled all the way through and the holes neve lined up either. I couldnt find any leagl issue with this way (and I did many.many hours of reading up on ATFs take on this). Then just grind or file the spot welds flat. Also with the so called "semi auto" paddle kit it has the paddle, a thick bushing and a smaller 1/8" inner bushing for the reciver. By moving the paddle on the big bushing to the left or right just a bit, you can "fine tune" what angle the paddle will be in relation to the trigger guard and mag. I did this to mine and the when I found the spot I liked, I cut a small groove in the paddle on the top behind the shelf where it cant be seen (with a small dremel cut off wheel) just deep enough to get in to the big bushung and hit it with a small spot weld so the paddle wont slide. At this point its done but now I have the "flop" to deal with (I didnt get the anit rattle paddle), so I took a AR15 hammer spring and with some careful bending I got it fit around the mag latch spring and keep pressure on the paddle at all times. It worked awsome! As for the reciever finish, all the areas that I cut or are exposed, I used Perma-Blue on them and then HK black Duracoat with an air brush. I painted the inside of the mag well after I removed the inner shelf but before I welded the pin in place. Then I was able to not burn any paint around my welds, so the only area that I had to refinish was the smi shlef only, thats it. And you can not tell at all! So I did the basic install but with a few tweaks to help out the small guys. It works and looks factory, the best thing Ive done to my PTR yet! I hope this helps anyone wanting to try it out....
Other than the oil spot, I cannot tell at all the reciver was touched up.

Budlight Lime... you sir, should be fined!!!!!!
How can you drink that garbage when there is Sam Adams,Weyerbacher and Guinness to be had??? OR, since you're on a forum praising GERMAN rifles, drink some GERMAN beer like Löwenbräu or Warsteiner beers...
tisk tisk
American beers (the norm like Bud, Miller, Coors) are trash. You guys ever hear the joke?
All the major beer brewer CEO's were having a "beer meeting" over some fine foods and the waiter first tuns to the CEO of Anheuser Busch and says "what will it be to drink?"
The CEO of Anheuser Bush responds: "well, I'll have the king of beers of course!! Give me a BUD!"
The waiter then turns to the CEO of Miller Brewing Company and asks "what will it be to drink sir?"
The CEO of Miller responds "I'll have the beer with the most flavor, give me a Miller Light!"
The waiter then turns to the CEO of Coors and asks "what will you have to drink sir?"
The CEO of Coors responds "Give me a beer strait from the Rocky Mountains, I'll have a Coors of course!"
Then the waiter turns to the CEO of Guinness and asks "will you also have a beer of your companies making?"
The CEO of Guinness responds "no I'll have a water thank you"
The waiter, stunned, asks why the CEO of Guinness requests a water and the Guinness CEO replies:
"Well, if these other gentlemen aren't having a real beer, neither will I"
Edit:
I'm here all night, please tip your waitress!
:D

That's awesome, I wish I had the knowledge to undertake something like that on my PTR. That push-button mag release really does suck.
I know, I know. I was all out of Heineken. It was Bud or water (same differance), my Wife likes it so we had some in stock. My normal "working on my guns" routine is a nice cold Heineken and a H. Uppman or Gurkha cigar. Man thats a good combo at 2:00 in the morning (when I do my best work)...
Ah hahaha. I love it. Excellent idea for the so-called anti-rattle lever. Looking at it, however, I might have reversed the lever so it pushed it backwards. I know that little spring wouldn't allow the gun to accidently dump a mag, but I would rest better having it push the other way.
Good job, very innovative.
As far as the Brewskis go, I like a nice Amber Bock on tap myself. Goes good with Hooters wings by the pitcher.
I tried many differant set up and springs. There is not room behind the paddle for the spring (the contact area is right there) to push the oter way on the paddle and the spring I used is a JP reduced power hammer spring so there is only enough pressure on the paddle to stop it from flopping. In fact, if you tap the butt stock with the rifle pointed up, the paddle will move a bit. Plus I like the fact that there is no play in the paddle and no gap to pull through when I use it. I love this little paddle! I knew I had to have one on my PTR after I bought my AK47. Totally changed the way mags are pulled now, one handed! My right hand never leaves the grip now! Suck on that AR15 guys!
This is the process I've used, from Mike the Electrician
I knew daredevils and I ain't got nothin' against them, ........it's just they're all dead.
I've seen that one before, and can't figure out why he went to the trouble of the 8-32 screw inside the 5/16-18 screw when a dowel pin would have worked. And also wouldn't have broken out of the top of the ledge.
Did you use the 8-32 set screw like he suggests?
Oh, and 99HMC4 - Strong work, strong work indeed. Especially with hand tools. It looks every bit as good as the one I did on a Bridgeport.
How'd you like dremeling out that stupid shelf? That was the worst part.
