    Default Aussie F4 .308 + HK91 = Great Accuracy

Been shooting SA .308 out of this gun for a while and was getting 2.5-3.0 inch groups. I decided to grab some of my Aussie F4 (SHTF stash) and give it a try. Here's the target at 100 yards. The lower left diamond was the last group and best group I fired, but was only 4 rounds (because I lost count on top left and fired 6 rounds / 20 round mag). Not bad IMO for a totally stock HK91 w/ a 80's mil surplus scope and mil surplus ammo.

Ummm, it's probably not the ammo. I think you should invest a little more ammo on the range. Practice makes perfect, y'know.

Even with the Aussie ammo only one group isn't still a 2 to 3 inch spread. I'd worry about getting more trigger time to close that up. Check into the "Appleseed" programs that are being set up around the country. Excellent instruction is available for a VERY reasonable price, and once they get you going, it's easy to apply the principles yourself.

What to boils down to, is a lot of people have rifles, but few of them are Riflemen.

A couple years ago, I did an ammo test with my DPMS .308. I did a few four round groups of everything from wolf, to LC, to a variety of low and high end commercial ammo. The Aussie got me the tightest groups, with exception of one of the high end commercial rounds which was comparable. Given that the Aussie was less than half the price at the time, that was the ammo I stuck with.

I've since dumped the DPMS and moved to an actual AR-10. Unfortunately, it shoots best with 175gr match ammo.

Each one of those squares on the target is an inch measured horizontally or vertically. The top right group is the largest at 1.9". The middle is 1.35", The top left is 1.7" and the bottom left is about 1/2".

    I'd say that's battle accurate. :)

Nope, I'd say that's range accurate. With all the time in the world to group well with nothing coming at you.

Do it again after 50 pushups... that might be closer to battle conditions.

That's why the athletes participating in the Olympic Biathlons are so impressive. Got the heart rate really up there by skiing around a course and then try to settle down enough to shoot.
