Default CA89K forward grip Form 1?

I just got a CA89K and I want to put on the "K" forward grip but no stock. I already have a BW89 with a Choate stock (SBR).

I have to Form 1 it just for the grip ($200). I'm thinking I might as well SBR it just in case I decide to stick a stock on it. I will just use the same overall length as my BW89.

Should I SBR it? What's the usual procedure for a "K" with just the grip?

I think if you go with no stock I suggest you the AOW.
    This info could help you
The AOW and SBR route both require ATF and FBI paperwork and NFA taxes. The SBR comes with a $200 manufacture or transfer tax while an AOW has a $200 manufacture cost and a $5 transfer tax. Accordingly, if you can have your local C-2 manufacturer build and register an AOW and then transfer it to you for a $5 transfer. If you do it yourself it's a $200 tax. You do not need to work with a C-2/C-3 dealer to do either of these conversions... Just sent the ATF and FBI your prints, pictures, and application and wait a few months until the papers come back! I do not know how much a C2/C3 dealer would charge to register a lower as an AOW and then transfer it to you.(got it from http://www.quarterbore.com/nfa/sbr-aow-pistol.html)

For $200 just to add the VFG, I would SBR it..
You have to engrave anyway and pay the $200, so you are better off, in the case that you ever put a stock on it.. Better to have the option, then be limited to just a VFG. Why pay $200 and have to go through the wait, just to put a VFG on it.
You know you are going to want to add a stock on it later.

gotta agree with Ronnie here. it's a waste of money and time just for a VFG. I mean really, you can always use the mag as a quasi grip. the difference is the placement, 3 inches forward and you have to pay a tax, 3 inches back you don't.

You could get it as an AOW for less than an SBR. Transfer on AOW is $5, while sbr is $200.

Now to get it as an AOW for $5 transfer you will need to talk to a SOT who will paper work it for you and then transfer it to you for the 5 dollars. They may charge you a fee to paper it, but im not thinking its going to be 195 dollars.

The key differance is manufacturing vs transfer here. Transfer for an AOW is 5, while transfer for sbr is 200. Manufacturing of either is 200, but since the SOT can manufacture anything they want without any tax transfer, they can do it put thier name on it and transfer it to you and save you money.

If you want it as an AOW get a SOT to do it for you, if you dont know an SOT and want to do it yourself, do the SBR paper work and just put a stock on it when you want.

Pat, it's not all that simple. The dealer does indeed pay a tax. First off, the SOT must be a MFG, not just a regular SOT dealer in NFA items. That's a higher rate. Secondly, as a MFG they must also pay the ITAR taxes, which generally are higher than the 07 license fees. Those that claim they don't have to will find out soon enough. If they actually "make" the NFA item, they must pay an 11% excise tax. Then on top of that, they are supposed to show intent to make a profit or could get their license pulled.

Really, the only time you can get a deal on an item like an AOW, is when it has already been made and someone is tired of it and wants to off it. Then it's a simple $5 tax stamp.

I've got several 07 manufacturer friends, it's not as easy or cheap as you seem to think. :o

My SOT is a Class II MFG also and he suggested to just SBR it.
