    Default 1/2x32 or 1/2x28?

I'm planning on having an MP5 built and want to have the HK94 barrel cut down and threaded for a 3-lug adapter. Which would be more useful - 1/2x32 or 1/2x28 threading? I don't have any suppressors but I'd like to get something I can also use on a 9mm pistol at some point.

The factory MP5-N barrels are 1/2x32.

If you plan to use the suppressor on other barrels, go with 1/2x28, it's a much more common thread.

Also consider getting an SWR Trident or Gemtech Trinity. Then you can get different threaded bases for pretty much anything - 3-lug, threaded, left hand threaded, an LCD for handgun use, etc.

Dave's answer seemed confusing to me, so here is my answer:

The HK94 BBL should be threaded 1/2x28, there are more 3-lug tips in that pattern you can use to attach to it.

1/2x32 is standard for the tip itself to be threaded, but there are very few options for that thread. I do not have any of mine threaded, I just use the 3-Lug.

Do some research on what pistol you would be using it on. Sig's are threaded 13.5mmX1 LH and some HK's are metric also. FN 5.7 USG is 10mmX1 LH.

Well if you already have one in 1/2x32, I'd get the same on the MP5. If you get this one in 1/2x28, you'll now need two different suppressor adapters unless you use the 3 lug.

If you already had several other 1/2x28 barrels, then I'd recommend sticking with it. Since you already have one that's 1/2x32, I'd probably stay with it.

But it's really not that big of a deal. The thread adapters for a suppressor can be ordered in any thread you want. And the 3-lug adapter tips used to add the 3-lug to a cut down HK94 barrel can be either 1/2x28 or 1/2x32. I was looking at suppressors for my MP5-N a while back and both Gemtech and SWR told me I could order them in either thread, or the 3-lug attachment. They will make one any way you want.

I have a Terry Dyer MP5 and its 1/2 x 32 (factory type), but I have an AAC Navy suppressor that is for fixed barrels only. I went for authenticity and bought an AAC Evo for my pistols.

If I ever have my Sp89 turned into a PDW I would still go with 1/2 x 32. When you have expensive guns modified by well know smiths it doesn’t hurt to have it authentic if you have to sell it.

I had my MP5-N and MP5k-N threaded 1/2 x 32 to be factory correct. However, I have an AAC evo 9 and instead of using their 1/2 x 32 piston, I ended up just using their triad 3 lug adapter so I could easily switch between the MP5's and a vector mini uzi with a lug barrel.
