Thread: What ammo do you use in your mp5's?

    Get a couple cases of brass NATO head stamp 124 gr from Federal or Winchester depending on the year .... if it don't work with that, then need to get the gun fixed.

    As always, what is your bolt gap?

    The gun was completely restored last year by TSC, I will measure the bolt gap tonight and post the measurements. Thanks for all the post guys!

    Some of the worst issues with guns are due to a build or rework. Not saying there are any issue but everyone is human and can make a small oops.

    I have a Michael's Machines MM-89K-Pistol (done up as a PDW when my sear is in the gun) and a HK-94 done as an MP-5 and the best ammo I have found for both guns in semi and FA is loaded ammo. I shoot anything and everything (all bullet weights, Hollow points, flat nose and any brand) it just keeps on shooting.

    I would recommend looking at your extractor and your locking piece. Those always seem to be the most common issues when it comes to functioning. Also look at your bolt assembly/reciever to be sure your bolt is not dragging or causing some unwanted friction inside the gun as this may slow or restrict the free movement of the recoil/ejection process. It sounds like you may have a combination of issues that are resulting in unwanted operational hangups.

    Just some thoughts....

    I won't mention what I shoot, because mine is a .40 which has different cartridge and pressure specs to begin with.

    Why I hate acronyms: When you say FTE, do you mean Extract or Eject. while the two functions are related, there is a difference between the two. What might be causing that problem and how to troubleshoot the exact issue will be different. Is the spent round being extracted from the chamber, but then just dangling around in the action? If it isn't being extracted, is it partially extracting or staying fully seated in the chamber?

    Learn something new every day I never thought of it until you pointed it out. FTE (failure to EJECT), the round is laying in the receiver and the gun is trying to load another round into the chamber causing the jam. Thanks

    I have experienced the same issues in my Fleming (sear)converted SP89 k-gun. Changing out the locking piece ( can't remember if to a 110 or 100 degree) made huge improvements.

    But recently I also have been having intermittent FT eject issues again...like you. Argh. When mine jams it typically has a crushed spent casing wedged in the gun with variable presence of a live round in the chamber. Very very frustrating bc after a few jams like that with steel ammo the spring always craps out and the gun runs progressively worse. I still bend a lot of springs. My k gun is the least reliable MG I own in fact. All factory parts except now the barrel is RCM bc the old barrel was worn badly.

    Try changing the LP....& using brass only. With curved factory mag only.

    Are the spent shells dribbling out or are they stready kicking out at 2 o clock position 6+ feet away like we like them too?

    Please do give me/us follow up. I tried tons of trouble shooting on mine. The LP made the biggest difference. That and a fresh spring ( never finger loose).

    Hey Houston, is this the same K I shot at ghillie's? FWIW, I think I only had one malfunction with it through the like 4 mags I put through it and it was all cheap stuff. It seemed to run like a top.
