How much is the tax stamp for adding a MP5K foregrip to my CA89? What form to use? Thanks D

It's a 200 dollar tax stamp to make it a AOW. Which is what you are making, when you put a forward grip on a pistol

Honestly, you would be better off making it a SBR (still a 200 dollar tax stamp) and have a buttstock put on it. then you would be free to shoot it with it on or off. With a AOW, you can't put a stock on it.

The forms you will need are 2ea of, form 1, (5320.1), F 5330.20, and FD-258-LE

all of which you can order from the ATF through their website, they come in a less then a week

Thanks for the info I have the forms aready. Where do most people have the SP89 ingraved for a Sbr? I think you right I would be stupid to not just SBR it.

Not touching that subject, there was a thread a while back about where to engrave info. on HK style weapons, and it generated into multi page lunacy, in three part harmony no less.

The transfer tax for an AOW is $5, the tax for making said AOW is $200.

Like Chef says, $200 to make, $5 to transfer. There may be a way around it - have it done by an FFL that doesn't have to pay the tax, then he can transfer it to you for $5. I think that's possible in some circumstances.

Yes, a 07 FFL / 02 SOT can make NFA items then transfer them to civilians.

So an 02 SOT can make the AOW, then transfer it to you for $5. But you're still stuck with an AOW which cannot have a shoulder stock.

I was asking around locally who can do receiver engravings last week and the gun store owner acted like I'd be nuts to engrave an AR-15 for an SBR unless I was selling it?

I'm assuming this has no clue what he's talking about and I do in fact need to engrave a reciever if I form 1 it for an SBR?

Engraving of NFA items is always a debate. HKPRO's policy is to allow people to post advice in its most conservative form.

As such, the maker of an NFA item is required to mark their firearm receiver, frame or barrel with the maker's name, City and State in a conspicuous manner.

There aren't many flat places on HK 9x series. The best I have seen is right above the rail.
