Hello my fellow HK enthusiasts! I am new to the HK scene, but am very happy to finaly be here. I looked around on the forum but couldn't find any specifics on why you can't buy the UMP Semi-Auto in the United States. I'm talking about the one that looks identical to a UMP not the USC. I looked on HK website and it reads that they make a Semi-Auto UMP, however it is not on the HK-USA website. Whats the deal I want one?
Also, the MG ban of 86 prohibits the UMP, even with the semi-auto trigger pack, since all you need to do is swap trigger packs to make it full auto. You cannot put a FA trigger pack in the USC without serious modifications.
It is very similar to the 91 ruling with push pins. The way the ATFE looks at it, it is the forward push pin hole that makes it a MG regardless of what trigger pack is in the rifle.

Thanks for helping a newbie out. Your gun is freakin sweet! How much are you into it, if you don't mind me asking? Is there anybody I could buy one off of that looks just like that?
Thank you as well Big Bore. I need to read up on the law more. I knew about the 86 ban but not the 91 ATFE. I will check out the law section.
It never stops amazing me how law abiding citizens have to jump through so many hoops to do everything legal. What can you do these days thats legal?
So for around $4,000, you can have one exactly like that.
"....you have three pistols and you only have one arm for Christ's sake."
"Well I just don't want to get killed for lack of shootin' back."
The USC I Looked at looked nothing like that..?
