Default Total Noob here, wanted to pop in and say Hello!

Been an avid shooter for years. My focus has mainly been in the AR's and the AK's, but my palette has been bitten by the HK bug lately. From all I have read here already, I have a ton to learn! http://www.hkpro.com/forum/smilies/biggrin.gif I recognize some folks from other boards here, so hopefully it won't be too lonely at 1st. Looking forward to many discussions and learning new things!

ETA: and of course the smiley doesn't work on my 1st post....

Welcome aboard sir. There are some really great people on here(myself included!) Who are very knowledgeable in the ways of HK. You'll love it here. Come on in. The water's fine.

not yet. Been eyeballing a certain PTR, but a friend of mine had his guru look at it. He asked me a bout a dozen questions about it which I had no answers for. So I decided I need to come here and learn 1st.

right now my biggest hurdle is the acronyms everyone is using. It's kinda hard to look up product info going by CA, MKL (if that's even right), etc... Exposure will get me there. The next big hurtle will be shelling out the dough! Like I stated above, I've been into AK's for a long time. Played with AR's, but mostly cheap AK's. Although I am an bit an AK snob, I prefer the best I can buy.

Basically where I need to learn the most:

1: Fluting, and what PTR models to avoid.
2: Lowers ( I prefer the original type but all I find find are "Navy")
3: Difference between JLD marked PTR's and non JLD marked...
4: kit building? AK kits can be iffy at times, how do the HK kits stand up? Cost of building? proper receivers.....etc...etc..

I know in the AK world, plenty of people buy rifles that look good, but have annoying little issues, no dimples, or dimples wrong size, wrong type of finish, improper sites, wrong type of furniture...a lot of different things. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to my weapons (comes from living through the ban period :) ) and really prefer them to look stock, and as correct to the original military configuration as possible.

I have a long road ahead of me. So far, I'm back 8 pages in this forum. I'm sure my list will grow considerably.

Ca is coharie arms. They were a big player in the HK clone market a while back. Not so much anymore. MKE is the other one you asked about. They are a licensed HK maker in turkey. They have purchased licenses from HK to make their weapons. Of course, we get the dumbed down models but I digress. Someone else can chime in with the ptr stuff. I know little on those besides the jld receivers being the best.

OOh and navy lowers are ambidextrous trigger packs. The other pack, the original, is an sef pack. They have a single selector.
