Default g3 free float barrel question

Do all g3s have play in the barrel. What I mean is, I can phisically move the barrel just a bit in all directions by holding on to the cocking tube and pushing just the barrel with my other hand.

Just wanted to check to see if this was normal.

    Thanks

they are not free floating barrels. do not mistake it for a loose handguard. remove the handguard and make sure the barrel is not loose in the trunion.

I should have been more specific, it is a PTR 91, it is not loose in the trunion. It seems as though the barrel is free float on the ptr 91. the hand guard does not touch it and the cocking tube does not touch the front sight at all. Just wanted to see if everyone elses g3 was like that or if that is just a ptr thing.

    Thanks.

I stand corrected, the later models of the G3 and the HK91 are considered free-floating barrels because there is a VERY small gap between the cocking tube and the tripleframe... and since the hanguard attaches to the cocking tube, it is considered free floating.

How much "play" is there? I would think a slight amount would be normal... my HK91 has about 1-2mm of play in it.

Well, i would say yeah about 1-2 mm...you have to push it though, it feels very solid, it just moves until the cocking tube touches the side of the front sight.

I wasn't sure if this was normal but seems to be, very nice.

Yep, that is how they are supposed to be. I think there are some really early ones that are not free-floating, but not sure about which date ranges they would be.
