Yes, if the slide is back, it is normal for the barrel to have a small amount of free movement. Normal with most semiauto pistols. Just so it doesn't do it with the slide released / forward.
Hello everyone,
I just reassembled my HK USP 9mm after cleaning it for the first time. Now, I notice that when I pull the slide back, the barrel rattles a bit - I can see it move a fraction of an inch when I shake the pistol with the slide pulled back. When the slide is moved forward, it does not rattle. I can't remember if it did this before I cleaned it or not!
I'm not firing it until I show it to someone more experienced than I, but meanwhile, can anyone tell me if this is normal? Everything else seems Ok. Note I am not talking about the magazine - it is removed....

It is nothing to worry about as all Modified Browning Action designed semi-automatic pistols do this.
Whew! Thanks all!
