Where are Sl8 made?

It may be a stupid question, but I thought HK has a factory in the US. Is this why the Sl8-6 is legal in the US and the G36 is generally not? Or is is just the no pistol grip and single stack mag that allow it to be imported into the US? What about the Canadian version of the SL8-4 and -5? Or is the US place only the ditributor?

There are several variations of the SL8 depending on what the destination coutry is. They are all made in Germany.

The SL8-6 for U.S. import has a narrowed magwell that will not accept hi-cap (G36) mags. Other countries, such as Canada, get other variations that do accept hi-cap mags.

All SL8's have the thumbhole stocks, has nothing to do with destination coutry.

The main legal difference between the SL8 and the G36 is the SL8's inability to accept a full-auto G36 carrier. There are other differences, of course, but the receiver's inability to accept a F/A carrier is THEE single difference that can not be legally modified on the SL8, all the other differences can be legally changed in one form or another.

I do not believe so--I am unaware of any HK factories in the U.S.. Maybe the 416/417 but I don't think those are either.

Not at present. However there are plans in the works that would see HK team-up with Wilcox to produce the HK416, HK417, (maybe the MR223) and the HK45 series here in the US at Wicox's faciltiy in New Hampshire.

Guy's, HK is not going to make the 416 over here dont care what you have heard, they also have just removed the SL8 and the USC NO they will no longer offer it for sale.

What basis do you have for this info?

The SL8, and USC are still listed on all of HK's civilian websites.

Until I hear otherwise I'm going to base my assumptions on what HK themselves have told HKPRO in regards to the Wilcox partnership / operations.

Any chance Wilcox might also produce the semi-auto USC45 with a UMP buttstock and grip in the future so we won't have to convert the imported thumbhole USC?

I know I'm probably dreaming but it would be nice not to have to spend all the extra cash to convert a USC to what it should of been.

Opening a factory in the US is the number one way to increase our access to H&K weaponry. A large limitation legally speaking is Germany's export laws, with a factory in the US some of those laws are less of an issue.
