    MPX

I'm a sig fan almost as much as I like HK, but does anyone think this is a bit infringing on HK???

I didn't ask if you were going to buy any, I asked if anyone thought it was a bit infringing on HK.

Never said that...I'm asking a question. Let me rephrase it...for anyone actually familiar with an MP5, do you think the Sig MPX infringes on the HK design? For further clarification, I'm not stating my opinion, I'm asking a question to discuss. Anyone with other comments not related to the question are welcome to start their own thread.

    Thanks.

The name yes, the stock yes, but that is it.
It looks like a mini ar15.
I need more Hk colored frame goodness!

What are the infringing features? The curved mag looks HK like, but HK certainly didn't invent the curved 9mm mag. For a quick example, the Sterling SMG has a curved 9mm mag, although it went in the side instead of the bottom. The collapsible stock with recesses for the rail in the sides of the receiver? HK certainly didn't invent the collapsible stock (M3 Grease Gun has one for example). There might be some that have recesses in the side for the rails too.

Almost everything else is different. It looks like the upper/lower separates like an AR and a rotating bolt system. To be honest, I don't see it copying the MP5 anymore than any gun has ever had some feature seen on another gun.

Personally, think the 16" carbine is stupid. Because SIG is too cheap to make a longer barrel for the carbine, they stick a 9 1/2 permanent muzzle brake on the 6 1/2 barrel. What a waste. Since the other versions are post-86 machine guns, the carbine version is the only mere mortals will be able to buy. I'll pass.

Apparently when I said I wasn't stating an opinion, that I just wanted discussion, people still through questions back at me anyways. Clearly the overall design of the gun has features that look very MP5/MP7ish. The name is the biggest question. Since this is becoming too difficult to discuss, I'll just request the thread be closed.

    Thanks.

Basic shape similarities does not constitute infringement. Especially from a platform that is nearly 50 years old. The operating system is different, too. As for the name... AR15, M4, M16... certain nomenclature becomes sufficiently generic that it's use is recognized by the courts as such and winds up getting used by lots. MP designates Maschinenpistole... already a fairly generic descriptive designation. One that was used back in WWII. Infringing? Not even close.
