I would like to know the price of a HK-416 with regard to M-4 of which it is concurent ?
It is the weapon which proposes the qualities of the M-4 ( modularity,...) but with a better reliability. But what is that the price allows its use as standard weapon as a replacement of M-4 in an army?
What one dealer has them priced at means nothing. When we were putting our deal together we got a wide range of prices from HK dealers and distributors. We got the HK suggested Mil/LE price of $1650 for a complete weapon from some, $1800ish from others, and one wanted $5,000. Obviously it paid to shop around, so you could avoid the greedy types who ignored HK's suggested retail pricing.
This is not an easy question to answer. The current US Army M4 price runs between $950 and $1200 depending on configuration (trigger mech, rail systems, sights, mags, etc.) and accessories. Of course that is on a contract (sole source) with a qty of tens of thousands (the US Army has purchased @ 350,000 on the current contract since 2004). An export/FMS price to your country would surely be at a different price and based on quantity. Maybe you could buy them direct from Germany and trade them for some Chimay beers!
You can't take the price of the HK416 from a dealers web site or even from the current HK USA price list as that is for a qty of one and they do not include iron sights (which the Army contract prices do) which must be added to the HK416 @ $200 per rifle.
Would be helpful to consider that the former CEO of HK Group stated publically in 2005/6 that HK would basically match the unit price the US Army was paying for the M4 with a comparably equipped HK416 if asked to bid on a new Army Carbine contract (then). Of course the exchange rate has changed since then and not in favor of cheaper HK's from Germany. In 2006 they were comparable in price based on similar configurations.
Will be interesting though as one might expect HK to submit one or more candidates (HK416, G36, XM8?) to the upcoming US Army Next Carbine solicitation due out later this year. As it will be EXTREMELY competitive, one would think HK and all other bidders would be sharpening their pencils on the unit price. A lot at stake and surely all bidders would die to win this one. Time will tell.
FWIW: The last three US Army TACOM purchase order prices for the HK416 were $1,605 (August 2007), $1,578.20 (September 2008), and $1,521.84 (December 2008). These were for 13, 100, and 5 rifles, respectively.
Sorry for asking a dumb question, but we civilians can own automatic weapons if you live in a state that allows such weapon. So if we can own auto weapon why can't we buy such weapon from dealers like any other weapons. Of course having to go through the 200.00 dollars ATF stamp process and all forms required by the ATF.
You can as long as you comply with the law. Unfortunately the law generally mandates that 'civilians' are only able to purchase guns placed into the registry prior to 1986.
