    Default Mag Problem

Our dept just got 10 416s in. Since they come with 1 HK mag, I was going to use a generic M4 mag that we purchased from Brownells a while back. So far the 6 or so that I have tried do not fit. Either they dont go in easy or they do not drop when the mag release is pressed.
Does anyone know the reason for this? I thought standard M4 mags would work fine.
In case there are no easy fixes, does anyone know of a company other than HK that sells the High Reiability Mag. Or how long does it take to get these in if ordered from HK.

    Thanks

Funny you mention this, I just had this happen to me as well this morning. I have one Brownells magazine and it went into the well and I did not think I was going to get it out.

I have used other standard USGI spec aluminum magazines without problems. Just seems to be the Brownells magazines. You can also try the Magpul E-mags, they are the European cousin to the P-mags. The standard P-mags do not work that well in the 416.

Use standard GI mags until MagPul releases the Emag. I Beta tested one and it dropped free from all 4 of the 416's I tried it in.

Thanks. I have the store I bought the guns from looking into some more HK mags for us. I went to a store in my town that happened to have some in stock ($79.95 each). That will be an extreme last option for me.

Pat Rogers is apparently a reliable source.

    Note:

Magazine Cartridge NSN 1005015205992 that for each requisition received for replenishments, there is a 'CA' fatal reject processed by the Item Manager. The message reads:

FIELD PROBLEMS WERE IDENTIFIED WITH THE STEEL MAGAZINE(1005-01-520-5992). NO STEEL MAGAZINES WILL BE AVAILABLE UNTIL CORRECTIVE ACTION IS IMPLEMENTED & TESTED TO ASSURE PROPER OPERATION.
REQUIREMENTS FOR 30 ROUND MAG CAN BE FILLED WITH THE ALUMINUM MAGAZINE NSN 1005-00-921-5004.

Not sure if you want to spend 40+ for a HK mag.

This is an educated guess as I have not tried one of the Brownells mags in the HK416. The HK416 mag well is longer than that of the M4. Look to the front surface of the magazine - does it look like it is pressing hard against the front inside surface of the mag well leaving a dent or mark? If so that is the problem - it is getting wedged in just enough where the mag catch catches it but then is not free to drop out due to its ouside profile/curvature that is not compatible with the HK mag well. Try the standard USGI or more expensive HK mags instead.

Thank you. I never looked at the front of the mag. I thought it was the back where the metal is folded over each other that was causing the rub.
