    Default MR556 with 14.5" 416/M4 Profile Barrel

I've had several of these come into the shop, finally got around to taking a photo of one. This particular rifle was shortened to 14.5, we added the 203 cuts to the front of the barrel, and then turned the area under the handguard to a Socom profile, I can also do the lighter M4 profile for customers that would prefer that.

I have also done these with a 16" barrel that has the 203/Socom profile, as well as 10.4". The 10.4" requires a slight modification to the gas block.

The question most asked about barrel reprofiling/shortening is the effect on accuracy. The best way I know to answer it is to say that these barrels shortened to 14.5/10.4 are no less accurate than any other AR barrels that are 14.5/10.4. From a basic physics point of view a lighter shorter barrel is generally going to be less accurate than a longer heavier barrel. However, I dont believe for tactical style shooting anyone would notice a reduction in accuracy going shorter and smaller profile than the factory 16" barrel. If you are the type of shooter than likes to clamp his rifle in a vise and shoot at 500 yards then you are probably going to notice a reduction in accuracy, but that is not the style of shooting a 14.5/10.4" barrel is intended for.

Tactical shooters do say that the rifles feel noticeably lighter and more balanced with the shorter / smaller profile front ends.

    That's awesome, Jayson!

Do you have any pictures of the barrel under the handguard? Any pricing?

    Thanks!

My question is what do you charge to reprofile to SOCOM, no M203 notch, cut to 14.5 and re-crown?

Also, no parkerizing afterwards as the plan is to perm attach a bi-lock and have the barrel nitrided after re-profiling.

Thanks I appreciate the comments, sorry I dont have any photos of one under the handguards. Basically the Socom type profile is approx .865" diameter under the handguards.

If you wanted a 10.4" it would be

    Shorten / Thread $145
Mod Gas Block / Refinish $75
Reduce Barrel Profile Under Handguards / Repark $80

For a 14.5" M4 style barrel it would be

    Shorten / Thread $145
    Re-Profile to M4/Socom and Parkerize Barrel $155
Perm Attach Muzzle Device $40 (optional if you were going non-sbr)

    That price would be

    Shorten / Thread $145
Reduce Profile Under Handguards w/o Park $60

    Thanks

Thanks Jayson, those are really decent prices, I appreciate you sharing them.

Do you do fluting and/or dimpling?

    Thanks again,

    -W

Jayson, what's the weight difference afterwards? Are these profiled to be the same as HK416 profiles?
