Default HK 556 A1- worth the price?

I have a Colt 6920 which I like but wanted to do something different so I looked at these. Price is obviously much more than the Colt. 2 questions....Is it really worth the price and why is it so dang heavy?

I was wondering this too...I saw one at a local gunshow with a tag that read "the gun that got Osama Bin Laden"

The tag on the gun was ignorant. It would have been hard for me to look at the dealer without laughing.

Whether or not the gun is worth the price is subjective. Plenty of people think so, or there would not be very many of them on the market. It is a quality firearm that will offer you YEARS of trouble free service.

The weight- Primarily the barrel steel and profile.

At $2700 to $3000 no, not worth it.

$2400 range, yes. A couple reasons I say it's worth that.

You're getting a piston rifle, railed handguards, front and rear BUIS, a pretty damn good stock, reliability, and H&K approval. Those alone are worth it for me.

Try to build a piston AR w/ a rail, BUIS, and LMT Sopmod or Magpul ACS stock and tell me what the final price is. I bet it'll be pushing $2100 or so.

Looks like the piston is one of the selling points along with a match barrel. Again is it worth it? Any alternatives to look to?

    +1. Nailed it.

Not the same machine that put OBL away. Same lineage/genetics...but not the same/exact piece.

Still, a very respectable rifle, heavy in the aforementioned parts. And as mentioned before, "worth" is completely subjective at this price point. Mine was $2699.00 (before any fees/taxes), and I have no regrets.

Only you can decide whether or not the HK is worth your hard earned cash. IMO the HK is well worth it.
