    They don't sit any higher, the magwell is longer. As others have already said, file the mag, not the weapon.

    I say do it if you want. It's your gun and I agree with your logic. It's minimal effect on the gun (done correctly) and advantageous to you.

    I work with guys who use their 416's daily. The PMags they do have (if not EMags) are modified from the command. Their support guys use standard M4's/un-modded PMags. What happens when they get in a TIC and have to use "other/un-modded" mags?

    If I owned an MR556, I'd go this route.

    There is interesting thread at M4C. Apparently Army (TACOM) just baned use and issue anything outside aluminium USGI mag (regular and new follower one).

    And this is what always happens, and my main gripe on firearms forums for discussions on modifications or required equipment for civilian self defense. The logic for a civilian's requirement/use of a firearm gets muddied by the military's requirement/use of firearms. Mag commononality is great for military units with multiple weapons sure, or LEOs even. But as a civilian (which I believe Wolvee is), who cares? End of the world fantasies aside, no civilian with an MR556 willl ever be in a TIC, burn through multiple magazines, and then need to turn to his buddy for an extra magazine.

    It's a $2500-$3000 rifle. If you can't budget well enough to supply yourself with 10 mags (that cost $10-20 each) that work in your rifle, you should have bought a cheaper gun. Hell, if you think you will be in some huge firefight, load all ten mags with self defense ammo and put them in a chest rig. You now have more rounds than the standard combat load of a military infantryman.

    Let's just be realistic and honest. If you just want to modify your MR556 to take any mag on the market, go for it, its your rifle and you can do what you want with it. But let's not act like a civilian "needs" to do this mod or else he will somehow be unprepared for self defense scenarios.

    I can't count how many times I've turned to my buddy and needed a fresh mag and on the flip I've been asked for fresh mag. It doesn't matter that now I'm a civilian, the need may be there at some point. Thanks for the help and advise from everyone I do appreciate the input.
