    So true.

Can you imagine though what today would be like had the Army adopted the Colt 703 during Vienam.
Just imagine where we would be if we had adopted a Piston AR-15 back in the day. Look how far the M4 has come because of all those who worked hard to make it the great weapon it is today.

I can just imagine the amazing rifle we would have today had we adopted this.

Just wanna add an edit: the 703 sure is a thing of beauty for its time

Wait a minute.....sinlessorrow, I thought your opinion was that a piston AR does nothing better than a DI system.....?

Or am I just confused about what you mean over on M4C?

I never said differently in my last 2 posts....now did I.

Just because I think the DI is a fine system doesnt mean I'm not itching for something new. While I think DI is fine, if we are goig to spend millions on a test just pick something. If it isnt a huge advantage who cares, at least you haven't wasted my tax payer dollars.

Besides like I said, the DI system is a great system today because of all those who worked to make it that way, theoretically had we gone piston to begin with it would probably be a much better system having 50yrs backing it as well. There is no telling what we would have if the Army would have chosen the Colt model 703 In the 60's early 70's.

I'm all for a better mouse trap, and I still believe a maintained M4 will do anything a piston gun will, but 50yrs from now if we still use the 5.56 there is no telling.

So if we are going to spend tax payer dollars on a new carbine comp again we better et a new gun, which I will embrace and go purchase :)

Just admit it that 703 is a sexy beast for a 60's rifle.

    Interesting thought.
And while at it what if it had been fielded in .270 or .280 British?
A more reliable, easier to clean AND more effective platform in the terminal effectiveness and MER category.
Could have save a lot of GI's a lot of grief over the years.

If only I could change the past, the .270 or .280 would have been amazing especially in an AR package like the Model 703.

I do look forward to the results of this IC. It will be interesting to see the Colt vs the HK. Both have passed the OTB testing(colt did it back durig the SCAR trials with their Type-C, the predecessor to their Ic entry) and both are made by great companies.
