Default Question for MR762 417 Owners

Last week a few buddies and I got to shoot a few French weapons including the updated FAMAS (with weird video game-buttoned foregrip) and an HK 417 (DMR set-up with French optic).

The 417 had a 18" barrel with the longer handguard, shot and balanced very well, and was surprisingly light. Comparable to a MK17 SCAR with optic. Needless to say we were all impressed. Are you MR762 owners feeling the same thing with it being deceptively light?

I never thought about getting an MR762 as I don't like the idea of the proprietary mags, and it does look like a heavy beast. Hefting that 417 however and repeatedly ringing steel at 725M changed that up a bit.

Light would not be the first work when asked to describe the MR308 if that helps. After throwing on a Atlas Bipod and a NF NXS scope it was about the same weight of a similarly kited out SR25EMC.

For having the longer rail and an optic, we were all surprised at how it balanced it was and the deceptively light weight. That's me, and a SEAL buddy, and 4 guys from the Army Marksmanship Unit.

Awesome signature line by the way.

I don't know if the French do something to lighten the gun, but it was not the heavy pig we initially thought it would be.

For big customers HK does special order job. I bet that French HK417 (actually any HK417) has lighter barrel profile than MR762/MR308 (just like in case of MR556/MR233).

According to the French army documentation, the 20" HK 417S weighs 4.6 kg without optic nor magazine (and maybe bipod?).
A full 20 rounds magazine weighs 0.68 kg.

I doubt HK produced a lightweight version for the French army as these 417's were bought very quickly for the Afghanistan.

What have you thought about the scope (Scrome J8)?

Hey, I am just a fat man that goes out to the range 2-3 times a week. It feels heavy to me, someone that is in top physical shape results may vary. ...

Glad you like the HK417. Sorry to change the topic but how much MOA does the French Hk417 shoot? What ammo did it shoot-M118LR or FMJ or some European ammo? How was end user feedback from French soldiers?

SCROME!!! That was it. I was racking my brain trying to remember the name of it. It kinda looked Hensoldt-ish. I thought the optic was a little too busy and reminded me a lot of the SVD PSO optic.

It was a little different, but it got the job done. We had a big white steel door (3'x3") we were shooting at at approx 725M. Honestly I'd prefer a Nightforce or Schmidt Bender. We only got to fire a few rounds a piece and sure's hell weren't going to hump that far up the Ghar to see the accuracy results. It went THWACK! which was good enough for us.

For what it's worth, our guns weigh 6.97kg with bipod, scope and loaded magazine. 7.86kg with the suppressor mounted. Weight is 4.6kg weapon only. 20" barrels, <1MOA accuracy (0,3 milradians)

(Pic from the manual, not one of the guns in my arms room)

    @SDduc996:

    What was the target size?
